Bill had broken his leg prerunning in Baja with Parnelli in Parnelli's van sometime earlier.

Todd Z.

Crazy, I didn't know that. I knew he had a broken leg so had someone sit
in for him with Parnelli in a race once, but didn't know they did it together.
Those guys were into some weird stuff, I must say... Parnelli with Vans and
Bill with motor homes... LOL

Took the family for a nice drive today, fall is finally in the air.
Just went to grab some stuff to put away and there is a
puddle of green on the passenger floor. Argh, I hate that job...

I'd check with that shady guy you bought it from and see if it's covered under warranty :).

So, more senseless minutia, but I wonder what told the factory to put the
standard fenders on a Sport Package optioned build? I would imagine that
would have been part of the "Special Order" or "Special Paint" codes. Do you
think they shipped the Bronco emblems off too, or would the Stroppe shop
just pry the corner of the emblem up to put the Baja decals on...?
I sure wish there were pics of the Stroppe "assembly line". That would sure
be a sight to see with all of the red white and blue rigs setting all around
that building...

My 73 Baja had the holes for the Sport script when I took off the decal to paint. The Baja decal covers the holes where the red Sport box is.

Pictures of mine reapplied and original from Andrew.

Hmm, interesting...
Thanks for the pics!
For some reason I just can't see them pulling off the Sport emblems, putting on the Decal,
and putting a standard Bronco emblem back on... Too much labor and inventory.

Well, thats the way they did it. Some got completed with Sport emblems due to decal production/supply problems. Also, the Bajas weren't made in a long row of 20 or more, usually 2-4 at a time being worked on.

Not to hijack but what in hell is that motor home looking thing? Pretty cool for back in the day.

That is the "Debbie Special" by Condor Motor Coach. I don't know a whole lot
about it, but from what I have read it completed a few 500 and 1000's. It was
more of a fun thing than a serious competitor, but still ran the race. Judging by
the big Stroppe logo on the side I would imagine they were the ones that did
the 4wd conversion, but that is a guess. Maybe Andrew will chime in because
I am sure he knows a lot more about it than I do...

That Condor motor home, was prepped by Stroppe and did a few races in the early 70s. 4x4 and propane powered, it was pretty awesome. It still exists somewhere, but I think the owner wants to remain anonymous.

Hmm, were different lots painted differently from Ford?
Check the tape line location of the white in the jamb...
Mine is similar to the second one.

Probably just taped by different people or Not I cant believe how little effort was put forth by ford workers, but it was probably pretty mundane working on the old assembly line.

They were done by hand, and built over 5 years, so yes, you will see some variation. Most common is the 2nd picture. Also, you'll see difference in the care used by the 'taper' in laying the tape in the jamb area.
