Found a carb

Found a Edelbrock 600cfm carb for the bronco online for pretty cheap. Got it coming and should be here saturday. Someone mentioned that I might need a kick down lever if I buy a new carb. The carb I have coming is used and I am unsure if it has this or not. If it does not have one where can I get one? I looked on Edelbrocks website real quick but did not see it anywhere. Since can not get the bronco until I pay for all of it and the guy said I can come over and look at it and possibly try and get it running, what else should I go ahead and get? I was thinking of some new spark plugs, new coil, and maybe a new distributer cap. Think I should go ahead and maybe get some new oil and change it along with an oil filter? Im just dying to work on it until I get it and if I could get it running it would be easier to get on a trailer.

Hopefully today or tomorrow I will be going over to the guys house that I got the bronco from to work on it some. The Edelbrock 600cfm carb will be here today. I got the throttle adapter, some pb blaster to spray into the spark plug holes and a fuel filter. Was going to get a starter but I still do not know if I need one yet as the bronco is not running, I meant to ask the guy if he has turned it over but I did not get to that when I went to go and see it the first time. I did notice a rather new battery in it and for some reason looked like the belts were all off. (Trying to turn it over by hand maybe?). If I get over there this weekend some time I plan on trying to get the old gas(if any out of the gas tanks first) I wonder if I can just use a gas can with a fuel line going to the carb? (just to bypass the fuel line in the truck and see if it turns over). Any thing else that I might need to do before trying to turn it over? I think the carb that I have coming has an ele choke on it as well. Can I just run the negative to ground and run the postive to 12v? Or should I just not worry about that when trying to get it to turn over? Thanks and i need to hurry up and pay the guy off so I can get this home and work on it all the time. I can only save up so much each pay period but I am almost there.

Also, I need to get an air cleaner for the carb. Which one should I get? I know it depends on the intake manifold for the height of it. I want to use the stock hood for now. I seen a few at pep boys but not sue what height I need to work with the hood.

Something with a low rise air cleaner.

If you have your carb mounted, I would use a piece of play dough or modeling clay to get the gap measurement.

I would think a 1.5 -2" air cleaner would be tall as one could go unless anyone else could chime in. I know when I ran my pep boys Moroso cleaner on my 4bbl edel I had to cut the hood.

Thanks. I can not remember the size of the air cleaner that I seen at pep boys but I think it was the smallest that I seen. I dont have the carb Mounted yet. Going to try and get it on the bronco this weekend.

Got my carb but have questions?

Got the Edelbrock 600cfm carb yesterday. Just got to thinking, is this carb going to be able to bolt on to the manifold that I have on the bronco now? The only reason I got a carb is because it was missing one. Did not think to see if the manifold on the bronco would except the 600 or not. Is there any way anyone could look at the engine picture that I posted in the 1st post and tell me wether it will go on or not? I am going this weekend to try and get it running and if I need another intake manifold I might as well try and find one now. Thanks

Engine prep

Ok. So I'm going to work on the bronco on sat and try to get the engine running. I got the edelbrock 1405 carb, kick down lever for it, new fuel filter, pb blaster( to spray in spark plug holes), quart of oil, and gas. Should there be anything else I should pick up to try and get it running before sat? Also looks like I need either a valve breather or a pcv valve( looking at the engine pic on first pic). Would having nothing on top of the valve covers keep me from getting the engine started? Much appreciated.

Working on bronco at home finally

Got the bronco home today. I went the safe way and hired a truck to move it for me. The I think the PO drained the all the oil and thats why when I pulled the oil plug and oil filter no oil came out. When I pull the tranmsisson stick there is a good level on it. I pulled some of the spark plugs but I plan on just getting some new ones tomorrow. I have got the radiator out and going to flush flush it out with a water hose. Was going to drop the gas tanks but the bolts for the straps are pretty rusted. Can I disconnect the filler tube to the tanks and siphon the old gas out for now? I will eventually will get new tanks but just want to try and get the old gas out for now. I turned the motor over by hand with a wrench and it turns so hopefully this means its not seized right? The bronco was not running when I got it so I am just trying to piece things together. Should I go ahead and tank the valve covers off and check the condition of the valves and look for oil getting to the top once I put some oil in? I bought a Edlebrock 600 cfm manual choke carb and I am thinking I am going to need a spacer to get the throttle linkage to clear. ( just doesn't look high enough when I tried it on for size). When I bought the bronco there was no carb on it and the throttle was not hooked up. It also had a/c on it. I dont really care to have it on it so I went ahead and took it off. Trying to get the compressor bracket off now. Do I just leave the bracket on use it? Its hard to get to all the water pump bolts off and I am trying to get the pump off now some I can check it and the T-stat. I'm also trying to get the tailgate to open and drop down but the handle does not seem to be pulling the things to let it open. Anyways, just trying to get all my bases covered before trig to turn it over. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

Does anyone know if I should use the a/c compressor bracket? Is there another bracket that I need if I don't use it?

Well, it took me all morning but I finally got the a/c compressor bracket off so that I could get to the water pump and take it off to look at it. The water pump is pretty corroded so I think I will just get a new water pump. Need to find out what brackets I need now so I do not have to use the a/c compressor bracket again. I can not get to the all the water pump bolts if it is on and if I need to do anything to the alternator it has to come off too. Not going to do that again!
I also managed to get the tailgate finally down. Boy that was a pain in the ass! Need to see how it works and fix it before putting it back up. more to come later......
