2 junk yards & 13 hydroboost units

You know how it is - when I was looking for a hyrdroboost unit, it took me several different places and I only ran across one unit.

I was out yesterday looking for some other parts and figured I would keep an eye out. Between 2 yards that are sided by side I stopped counting at 13 hydroboost units. Everything for Chevy Astro vans, GM Safari vans, big full size chevy van, chevy trucks, etc - everywhere I looked.

The only bad news - I asked at both yards what they would sell the entire unit for (hydroboost, master cylinder, high pressure hoses, and proportioning valve). I should preface this with the fact the U-Pull-It charges about $50.00 for everything I listed about. When I found my 2nd unit, I pay $35-$40 for the hydroboost and 1 high pressure hose.

The first yard wanted $150. I told him what I could pay at U-Pull-It and his only comment was "Wow - thats cheap". The second yard wanted $75.00

Madgyver & BigMuddy - if you are reading this - I thought about you - 2 of the units were on angled brackets ;D

Hey helluva find! I found I think between 6-8 and the wanted between 100-150 for them complete but they also are doing the pulling. I eventually put mine on the stock vacuum bracket and actually prefer over just the angles bracket. I really don't think that 75.00 is out of line if they are going to pull the parts for you.

Nope - sorry - the $75.00 is me pulling the part and doin' the dirty work.

I am about a hair away from putting mine on the stock bracket - just too cheap to buy one from the Bronco vendors right this second.

If you run across a used power brake booster bracket, please please let me know.

I was actually out robbing door panel clips (Dodge Caravan) and looking for a gear reduction starter. Didn't have much luck on that end.

Any idea if disc brakes from a 1977 Ford F-100 2 wheel drive will work on the old Bronco? Guy wanted $150 for the entire setup.

Be careful what you are getting yourself into - the hydroboost with the angled bracket is not just a bolt on operation.

HI guys!! Corey is right with the above statement. The mod takes some doing, and MadGyver is one dude that has done this one several times. A dozen units in one day!! MAN you were breathing right.
As to price, I believe you are correct, way to much. My scrapyard in rural alberta lets me have everything I want for half a C note (thats 50 bucks to you young puppies) Last one was a Lincoln setup and I got the whole thing hoses pump and all for that. I think your US yards are jerking you guys big time but that is my opinion.

The BEST hydroboost setup is the early GMC diesel pickup early 70 vintage. This is a 2 bolt mount and the only adjustment is the actuating rod.

I picked up a Super Duty h-boost and I'm on the fence about how to mount it. I do have a factory booster bracket, but I'm not wild about the idea of having to space the unit out from the bracket. However, I'm also worried about clearance if I mount it straight on the firewall. i have a 351W by the way. Anyone have pics id a flat mounted h-boost with a 351W and no body lift? I'm curious as to how it will clear.

You wanted pictures

You wanted pictures, here you go.
That is a 351 motor, this is the moved unit modification. The unit was moved 3 and one half inches toward the driver fender. It is sitting in the clutch location and I use the wide lincoln brake pedal for stopping

Hydroboost units

Are there certain year chevy astros to use? I have a yard by me that has alot of complete units hoses etc. If someone can tell me what to get I will raid the yard and sell them to whoever wants one. I am pretty sure I can get everything for less than $50.

Thanks for the pics TOFIC. I have a manual trans, so I can't do the wide pedal option. I got a set of those extreme motor mounts, which I hear raise the engine about a half inch?? So...351W, no body lift, monster motor mounts, manual trans, and a desire to mount the h-boost in the stock location...is this do-able? I don't have the engine in yet to check the fitment. Like I said, I do have a booster bracket, but I'd rather let Kansas Corey have it if I can mount this up without it.
