I will second what Bill said about the yards in Maryland. They dont have any old stuff...Zero...

I had a yard 10 minutes from my old house that was full of Ford and chevy pick ups fromn the 60s to the 80s and he was cheap. But they changed the regs and he closed shop and crushed everything he had. Had another yard that had some really old stuff in it from the 40s to early 90s. About 10 years ago he said he could not keep the old ones anymore and crushed them all broke my heart the next time I went because anything older than the late 80s was gone!!! It really sucks!

He who has the parts charges what he wants. yeah it does suck to pay a core charge but as was said many yards have core buyers so they want to make there money. It may be a bit sad becuase it does drive the price up but compared to new what can you do. Yes cruise craigslist until you find what your looking for at the price you want to pay. May get lucky or it may take months or years.
Dont like how they run the yard try opening your own see what it takes to make money sure you buy cars for next to nothing but then you have to wait until someone comes along and needs parts for that vehicle if its a popular vehicle then you may make your money back fast and then some if its not to popular then you may have it for a long time before it pays for itself. Or other bills come up and you just scrap it for the money.

I called a large yard here in minnesota looking for a 4x4 steering box and a 4x2 box. the guy said they have the 4x4 box already pulled but they want 150 bucks plus a 100 core. WTF? Since when do junk yards get a core charge? Its cheeper to buy the parts new or get the swap from the vendors!

Ahhh im over it now. I just picked up a 4x4 box for 40 bucks today and have a line on two more in wisconson for 40 each also. i might grab the other two in case fellow bronco brothers are lookiing for them in the future. Screw that junkyard and there prices. $40 beats the hell out of $250! Like the seller told me....he always happy helping a fellow ford guy!

Every junk yard here in my area...every part is listed as half dealer cost. which as we all know can be steep , I agree its almost as cheap to by the chinese crap from the parts store and replace it a few times... Not that I want to do that ...but Im just Saying
