Auto wrecking place called today they pulled a explorer 5.0L out of a totaled rig today, ran it, tested compression (175lbs average), and oil pressure (35lbs psi). What do you guys think would it be a good deal for $700 plus $100 core charge. Will this engine fit with the serpentine belt system, I planned on getting a aluminum radiator anyway, any other potential problems??

All the yards charge cores here. It's ridiculous. Just another way to pad their profits. When they have 1/2 off days, they don't take 1/2 off the core charge either, so on smaller parts, the core charge ends up being almost as much as the part.

As for the used engine, I don't think I would pay $800 for a junkyard engine.

If you end up getting it, the Explorer 5.0 with matching serpentine setup will drop right into an EB.

The Pick-n-pull here explained that they make more money off the recycling of metals than they do off of used parts. That's why they say the insist on cores.

That price, would be a documented (show you the explorer) with less than 50k miles in my opinion. I don't think I have ever had a 302 with that kind of compression....

IMOP junk yard motors are a ticking time bomb. As states before the numbers seem a bit off. If this truck was in a roll over how long was oil on the wrong end of the motor? Did it spend its life on Sunday morning drives or was it a rental. How many miles between service? Did they mention any check engine lights? Are you getting the engine harness and ECU for the above price?
I got my last (read used) 302 for $300 delivered to my door it

Complete with computer and harness, dont know the life, but remember im in rural america theres no competition for these guys. I could spend hundreds on fuel trying to save $200 on a motor!

you can do better than 800

you might need to be patient and wait for the right deal and then have it shipped to you

wrt power steering pump.............if you get a complete Explorer 5.0............it has an awesome pump...........no need for the saginaw

I bought a complete Explorer that had a rusted frame for $500.00. When I am done taking everything I want, I am going to part it out on Craigs list or scrap it to get some if not all of my money back.

In my neck of the woods I can have a v8 Explorer motor pulled and set in the back of my truck for $450 or I can unbolt it and have it picked up and set in my truck bed for $200.
