I am buying a 2000 Ford Explorer four-wheel-drive 5 L vehicle that is running eventually want to do a rebuild on the bottom end and I go with the serpentine system not sure about fuel injected or carbureted The problem I have is I have an H O A that's going to give me a hard time about having a vehicle so I need to do a quick motor pull and junk the rest. Wondering what wires or computers I might need just in case I go fuel injected or what other items I might need

Lot of threads on this
Check out EFI guy he is the guru in EFI swap

Complete motor
Complete trans
Grab complete engine harness
Harness in the engine bay( relay box, battery connections) just unplug and grab what is easy to remove. You will cut it down later .
Transmission harness
Computer
Computer box ( if you can get it out)
Power steering lines
Inertia switche and Pig tail ( get about a foot)
Fuel pump and pig tail. ( get about a foot)
Throttle cable
Exhaust manifolds
Fuel lines

This is off the top of my head and I what I would grab . Some stuff you may not use , some stuff you use to save money. If you can't have the truck hanging around too long , it's better to grab it and save it then wish you had later.

I'm sure there is other stuff too

If you can take it out before you scrap the Explorer the rear end is popular with Jeep guys and some others, it can be sold for between $200 and $325 (depending on ratio and if posi or not).
A good way to recover some of the cost of the Explorer.

You will also need the inertia switch on the PS kick panel, I pulled a lot of wire from front to rear to make my harnes. Id also suggest getting all the connectors on the harness as they come in handy and get the 3 bulkhead connectors and shields on the DS that goes through the firewall. These are great to run your pin outs to the dash and engine compartments. You will also need the fuel pump/sending unit and connectors , and you need to decide if you are keeping EVap and EGR and rear O2 sensors if so, get those . EFI guy has been a big help to me and others on here. I have some excel spreadsheets on how I did all my pin outs at most of the connectors. I did all my own wiring and I've had no fires yet. I ended up selling the rear axle and then sold the rest of what was left for salvage at $6/100 which brought about $240. I ended up marking my own fuel tank using The explorer pump/sender and made a new fuel gauge so you will have to figure that out too. Good luck with the swap. It's awesome.

This shows where to make the cut when you remove the firewall portion of the wiring. Your small relay box will be under the air filter box, save a foot or 2 of wiring from it, you can still make the cut in the same spot. The idea is that you want to keep everything labeled in yellow.

That picture is actually a 99-01 harness with a 96 relay box added on the right side of the picture. Make the cut where it shows, but try to also get the relay box located near your air cleaner with a foot or 2 of wiring behind it.

Good deal, so is this all of the harness I need, total? Then I just add all the new connections to it as per your videos? Thanks!

No, you still need the engine harness, transmission harness, OBD2 port, and the inertia switch with the pigtail.
