I just bought a 1972 and I am new to the Bronco scene. I am thinking of installing a 2000 explorer 5.0efi serpentine setup hydroboost and 4r70w. Are there issues with the heads in this year that I need to be concerned with as far as headers go? Is this a good year motor to swap?? Any pointers greatly appreciated!! Thanks

I know that year has the "P" heads so a lot of people use the Bronco Hut shorty headers.

'00 should be the P heads. Last non-P heads were early '97

P-heads have the funny plug angle that can be problematic in fitting headers.

You want hav any prob, the factory Explorer manifolds work perfect, no need for headers unless you just want them. Never seen a 96-01 5.0 explorer with a timing belt

I was wondering the same thing came across a 2000 explorer complete and running for $500 on Craigslist, says it won't pass smog because of computer error, don't know how many miles. I want to go 351 since I have no motor right now but could definitely use the tranny.

don't let the P heads scare you off, they are actually pretty good heads from performance perspective

they just require use of Bronco Hut headers due to the spark plug angle

I read that somewhere, about the belt, I went with a 93 5.0 HO from a 92 t-bird and used gt40P heads with double springs over the low revving single wire explorer valve springs.

so have you seen a dual roller timing set, same as the HO's or single roller/nylon gears? just curious for future knowledge.
