It sure is! I do get the occasional chime in from the Morrisdale, Pa crowd and a few others. I know I’m not doing anything ground breaking so it probably seems a little boring to some. That’s ok because I am having fun and It is pretty cool keeping track of my progress. I have torn several Bronco’s down this far but have never had one go back together from this far gone. It’s a first for me and I have been learning a lot while doing it. I know some people are watching, not sure if they are laughing or not. But hey…. I’m proud of my progress so far.

Thanks Pat! Like I said I’m Proud of what I’ve done so far. In talking with Bill last night I realized I am actually a little bit farther than I thought I would be at this point. Setting small goals for my work days seems to be working and keeping me motivated. Last weekend I thought “if I can just get the bed patched I’ll be doing pretty good.” Well as you can see I got a lot more done than just the floor…. If only I could have worked on it Sunday I could have been even farther along!
By the end of this weekend I’d like to get the driver’s side rocker off and get the inner rocker replaced. Also would like to have the rear door post fixed. who knows maybe I'll excede my expectations again.... Im gonna be driving this thing in no time!

Thanks stout22! this one will be brought back to life although it is not as easy as it sounds! I didn’t get much time to work on it this weekend so I didn’t get near as much done as I thought I would. I should get plenty of time to work on it during this coming week to make up for it.

I started to modify the old rusty bulk head to go straight up and down so I can move the seats farther back for more leg room. I didn’t get it completed but got a good start on it. I'll attach some pics cause everybody loves pics.;)

I appreciate the work on those patches Jeff! I did that to my daily driver, had very similar rust out pattern! Did you run POR15 or other seam sealer on the seams underneath the patches?

I like that idea of straight up and down, will try that in the trailer and maybe on the hot rod.

Mark, Most everything that has been welded is seem welded. but the parts like the pasanger door post we did get as much Por15 on it as we could. welding through it was a pain but we got the welds to stick. I am going to coat the whole tub with POR15 then buy the POR15 etching primer to prime the whole tub. Then line it with Black Raptor liner. I hope it helps keep all the salt off the metal for a few winters.

I dont need the extra leg room but my wife does so I thought this was a good way to get it. I figure it will give me some room to put some speakers in also.

Jeff, I get what you were after by doing this, but my seats hit on the top of the bulkhead and even if its straight up and down will not go back any further. Will be nice for behind the seat storage anyway!!

I was thinking of using a Ranger 60/40. I like to have my seat recline a smidge... but my wife don’t mind sitting strait up. so since the seat will split she should be able to set hers farther back.

Today Bill came over and started catching up on some finish welding. While he was doing that I continued working on the bulkhead. I made a flat surface for the bottom of the bulkhead to sit on. I wanted to seal off the ribbed flooring so Water, snow etc couldn’t get between the floor and the bulkhead. So I wire brushed,Primered and threw some cheap paint on before I put the cover on the floor and got it ready to be welded in.
I also cut the pieces to weld in on the sides of the Bronco to square off the inside. One more evening on the bulkhead and I should have it finished up. here’s some more pics.

Another Patch!

I got some work done on the drivers side today. I am glad I decided to replace the rocker on this side after I cut it off I got to looking at it and the whole thing looked like Swiss cheese. I Knew that the inner rocker was bad so there were no suprises... I cut it out and got it replaced today. I am finally nearing the end of replacing RUST. I am so glad that this part is almost over!

My camera broke today so all I have are cell phone pics, But hey.... they are better than nothing!

Key ingredients

I think I have found the key ingredients to a successful Bronco build for beginners.
A. A good friend that knows how to weld.
B. An understanding wife
C. A great information source like Classic Broncos
D. Motivation
E. Work within your budget
F. A work list to keep you on track
G. Dedicated time to work on the project

Just my .02….. any beginners like me out there wondering if you should do it yourself or pay someone to restore your Bronco... if you can start with 4 out of the 7 and you have the tools/ workspace to do it... I say go for it! ;)

I'll add another point to your list: Storage.

You will need a place to put the things you take off, or the things you acquire to put on it. When I did mine, I had 2 Broncos worth of stuff, I needed the room to disassemble then work on each part as the major project was under way. Then as things came back together, I needed room to keep clean parts (freshly painted parts) away from the remaining body work being done.

Indeed! Excelent point! I have no shortage on work space thanks to an overly generous mother in law. I do sometimes forget and take all my space for granted. I like you have 2 Bronco’s worth of parts and I know what you mean about finding space for it all. I would be in a world of hurt if I lost my work shop.

I got a Good days work in today. I have been working on the driver’s side door area. I got the rear door post patched, welded the inner rocker on and started to patch the front door post. I should have the this door area finished up soon. I don’t work on Tuesday this week so I will be able to put in a good days work on it. Actually I only have other plans on Monday and Wednesday this week so I should get a lot done on the Bronco this week.;D

My Camera is beyond repair so I will have to get another… Sorry no pics today.
