28oz. vs 50 oz. crank balance

I know this has been answered in a previous post but I couldn't find it. I'm ready to install a Explorer GT 40 5.0 into my 73 Bronco with a C4 trans. I'm using the v-belt system on the old 302 and know I have to change the front pulley or modify it to work (was told there is an aftermarket pulley available, where?). Also, will I have to change my torque converter? Will the old one bolt up to the newer flex plate? I was told that I could change the crank balancer and flex plate off the old 302 unto the newer 5.0, but than I was told that you cannot change the balance from one to the other. Any info would be appreciated, I'd like to know where I'm headed before I get there!

If it's a 4 bolt dampener, they do make after market pulleys for that. On the flex plate, I would get your C-4 one rebalanced or buy one off for an 80's AOD with a 302 (use something like an '88 5.0 Mustang for reference). They should be the same size, but check it vs your old C-4 flex plate.

March is the place to get pulleys from. http://www.marchperf.com/

You can not use the 28 balance parts on a 50 balance motor. It will shake you out of the car if you do. Get the fly wheel you have rebalanced unless you can match it up to a later model fly wheel that will fit. I have no way to check that so I am unsure on how to tell you to start. I will ask this on the mustang site.

A C-4 torque converter should bolt up to 5.0 50 oz. balance flex plate. Mine did. The harmonic blancer on an Explorer 5.0l should be a one piece design (serpentine pulley built on to balancer). You will need a mustang balaencer and buy a march V-pulley with 4 bolt holes.

BigE, what year motor did you use and what did it come out of?

As for selecting a flywheel it was brought to my attention that C-4 transmissions where used until the 80's so a flywheel from one thiese cars or trucks may work. I am still working on what cars and trucks ,ay have come with a C-4.

Bronco 73 I used a 93 mustang H.O. 5.0L . The aod and the bronco C-4 use the same 11 7/16" bolt pattern on the torque converter. The C-4 must be a pan filled like in the bronco. NOT the case filled (like in the cars that use a 10 1/2" bolt pattern) If I rember right the 302 whent to a 50 oz blanace in 82. So my stock Aod flex plate would bolt up to a early bronco C-4.

Thats great then because I have a 91 GT motor and trans from a mustang. But I still have yet to decide on the installation of the AOD.

Previous owner put in a mystery 302 in my truck... when I replaced the water pump, all pulleys were mismatched. I eventually called Mark at JBG, he took the measurements from the face of my (50oz) balancer to the face of my water pump housing, and sent me the correct pulleys. They are the March billet aluminum jobs, about $200 after shipping and what not.
