I have a 74 bronco with a 351w that runs about 210 degrees. I have a New 4-core radiator on it with the old fan and front end from the 302. Water pump is old also. I have not had in it the mud yet but think she may run too hot. The engine if freshly built, bored 30 over with cam and flat top pistons.
Think a new fan or water pump will solve my problem?

Why would you run an "old water pump" on a "freshly built engine". Doesnt make sense.... A fresh engine will run a little warm until it "breaks in" but a shroud will help. also what temp thermostat did you put in it??? I always run a 170 or 180 tops on a new engine...

X2 a fresh engine will run a little hotter than normal. Nothing wrong with a old water pump although I also try to use new ones on rebuilt engines.
I agree a shroud will be the biggest help next would be a good fan I like flex fans myself a lot of people like ridgid ones. I had a lot of issues with a 4row radiator seems like I just couldnt get enough airflow through the one I had went back to a 3 row and all is good even here in AZ.

Could be nothing wrong. If then new engine has a 190 thermostat and considering the inaccuracy of the stock gauges it might just be running perfect.

Shroud is always a good thing on Broncos.
The stock fan is actually a desired item for people wanting to keep the Bronco cool. It is one of the better ones you can run.

210 hot? that actually sounds like a good operating temperature. I start paying attention around 230, action around 240. That is with an aftermarket gauge that I trust.

I meant to say I have a shroud. It is a little plastic one but it is there. Also, no fan clutch. And it does seem to run good at 210 just wondered if it would run hotter in mud under a load.

my old 351 ran a constant 210 with a 190^ occasionally it would go up to 220 while wheeling but never made me worry.

Timing was an issue with my 67 stang with a 392 stroker! Try advancing it...

I also have a new 351w (900ml) in my bronco with what sounds like the same mods . It has never climbed past 175 ,but saying that I also put a 30%smaller water pump pully on it from B.C.Bronco ,and I had the local rad shop weld in some bypasses into my rad .So the water has to pass through it three times before going back into the motor. I was running hot to... around 200 all the time and hotter at idle 230 .I first put a new Edlbrock water pump on and it didn't make any diffrance still at 200 . So I did the pully and rad, droped to 165-170and it doesen't climb past 175 on hot days . over heating is thing of the past ;D . Good luck .

Oh ya I don't run a shroud on it , and I'm useing the truck 302 5-blade fan not the bronco 7 blade ( it ran to cool ) and was loud with the smaller pully .I hope this helps .

Heres my experience...

83' 351W.... Flow Kooler pump, new WH 3 core rad, metal shroud, 7 blade flex fan, 192 or 194 thermo. I had the motor 30 over, and was running 210 in 100 degree high humid NW Florida driving. I moved to NM, and have had the same issues. It will go up when tooling from stoplight to stoplight, but the trails never seem to be more than 205. If I watch others climb rocks and wait my turn it will flurt with the idea of going past 210, but it is usually 90+ outside when it happens. When I had the 160-170 stat in it, it would climb past 210, but switching to a 194, (might be 192) I havent been too worried. I have around 1500 miles since I built the motor. No change, but I do feel another flush coming on just to change to a summer type mix. A good flush on the radiator wont hurt either! I used a calcium breakdown on my old radiator, and filled up 2 coffee cups of gunk! Decided to stop chasing ghosts and saved for a new radiator!

351W running 210...sounds normal to me. Mine runs right there, on a good day. Last outing I saw 250, then started running in 4 low and she finally stayed around 200-210.

I did this mod a couple years ago and it made a big difference. I live in Phoenix, AZ so dealing with heat has always been an issue.

I have stock 3 core radiator. C4 cooling lines through tranny, then a big external cooler. I have a small pusher fan infront of my radiator on a manual toggle switch (and relay for you electrical gurus). That helps tons on the trails at slow speeds. Without it I can't keep I had a tough time keeping my 351W cool while wheeling. I also have a flex fan.

At times my temp climbs when really taxing the motor at slow speeds, but is manageable.
