38" tires too big?

Jeez. Some people have more time and money than brains.... That kind of illustrates my fear though. I want a vehicle I can drive around and not a tonka toy. I've basically told myself that I won't do a body lift no matter what, so I think that limits me to about 35" tires, although with FW axles, that might be a little different...

40's

I am looking to go with as big of a tire as possible to maximize ground clearance under the axle. I also like the way it looks. I am not real big on the tall linky rigs. Low center of gravity and lots of ground clearance. I just finished my front last night. 3" body and 3.5" Suspension with extended stonecrushers. I bolted my brothers 40"s on it and think it looks great. I will extend the bump stops just long enough that the tires don't rub on the fenders. Limited up travel but should have a lot of droop. I am running 4.56s gears and don't expect to wheel extremely hard until the body is crushed.

If you have any pictures like this please post them. 38"s or bigger but no tall rigs for mud boggs.

38 all the way. 5.5in lift with 3" body. 4.10 gears. Rebuilding the motor right now with RV cam and 4-barrel intake to try to get some more torque. Bigger gears would help.

T shift case has a 2.46-1 low range J shift 2.34-1 low range really not enough differance to notice. Either way 4.10's and 38's are a very poor combo wether offroad or hiway you'll be way underpowered. While a NP435 or a ZF tranny might get you some lowend gearing back your hiway power will really suffer you may not be able to use high gear except when going down hill. not to mention that you are already handicapped HP wise at 7000 ft elevation. 35's are a much better combo but you will probably still be down on power just not as much.

Basically the same conclusion I came to. Really it's all a Moot point since the 38's weren't quite as good as I had hoped. I'll probably use them as rolling stock in the short term but I'm going to drop down to 35's when I buy tires. I'm still looking for the right trans as well, so without a complete drivetrain, I can't make any long term decisions regarding the 4:10s.

Hal9000,

Here are some shots of a few of EBs I had with 38s:

I varied with lifts (5.5 susp. and 2 body; 3.5 susp and 3 body) and miss the larger tires and flares (my current corral is all uncut).
