I'm leaning hard towards this engine for my 74. I talked to the BP Engineer Manager Chris today and we had a good conversation. BP is willing to swap their standard camp with the Comp Cams 35-440-8. Chris says the quoted torque should increase quite a bit, especially at lower RPM's, but I may lose 5-10hp going with this Comp Cam. That seems fine to me. I wanted to get your opinions on switching to this particular Comp Cam. Chris says this cam is more of an "RV" type cam and will suite my needs better. My needs? Weekend driving to the beach and around town...quick off the line...tons of power. Is there a better cam suited for my needs I should look into?

Here is a link to the engine. I'd appreciate your input. Thanks!

Warranty is everything, from their warranty fact:

not be liable for or pay any labor claims on BluePrint engines installed by any third party that is not a certified ed license repair facility that it has authorized to perform

I'm one to trend to local machinists on anything of this nature.

Other than that, I have no knowledge of these folks.

I took that same engine spec sheet (with price) as well as another one I was looking at to a local engine builder. He spent about two hours talking to me--mainly asking me questions about what I wanted to do with my EB. Came back with a price that was slightly higher but without EFI. But I got an internally balanced engine that I really like. His recommendation on gearing and torque converter were spot on what I went with and Hughes recommended. I had some ignition issues with the ignition he went with and he was on the phone immediately with the manufacturer helping me trouble shoot it. I've called him a few more times about other stuff and he has been a great help.

I don't know anything about your EB but there are some parts after an engine like that engine that will need upgrading--pretty much everything if you like to use the power. Going with that much power is a financial commitment. I'd recommend going local but everyone always recommends what they did. There are people on this forum that have used that company and they have been happy. I'm not sure I've read anything on this forum negative about that company. And I researched a 408W until my eyes were bloodshot.

Anymore input about the cam, etc...? I want to order the engine early this week because it's going to take BluePrint 3-4 weeks to build. Thanks again!

I would avoid the compcams 440-8, it states power band begins above 3500 rpm. NOT what you want, you want it to start at 1000rpm.

Hydraulic Roller-Great in Street Machines. Best power above 3500 but still good torque. Mild rough idle. Largest for stock heads and intake. Needs stall.
I think you want a 260 or 270 camshaft, go look at this cam part number: 35-412-8

If you overcam a bronco, they end up sitting in the garage cause you cant get off the line.
