Any idea what would cause a loud whining like a supercharger while on the throttle? I just got my bronco back from exhaust and finally test driving and with the hole in the floor the whining sound is pretty loud. Not sure what is causing it but pretty frustrating.

Does your transferase have oil in it? Also rear diff? Need to start with the obvious first. If all of that is good then I would have to say a whine could be from a bad or missed torrington bearing inside of the trans which could be causing damage or improper preload set which is adjusted by a plastic washer underneath the pump. If its not the easy obvious then it means the transmission will need to come out and apart for inspection.

That is what i am afraid of. I added oil to the t-case but will double check it. This is a fresh rebuild to unfortunately so i am wondering if it is something i did with converter.

Torque converter could not be fully seated as well which could damage the pump but would also cause a whine

I was thinking that but I swear I had it seated. Guess it will just go to the trans shop I’m not pulling it again. It’s just very deflating I have never attempted something like this and was excited for that test drive.

I am wondering if it has anything to do with the twin stick install and maybe I am not fully in 2-high. I am not sure of the t shift pattern or how much movement there should be on the shift rods. Right now it looks like they only move approx 3/4 in and out on the t-case. I did not separate the front and rear from each other.

What would be the symptoms of a torque converter not seated properly?

Not sure about the twin stick question but I had a freshly rebuild transmission (was a corvette) that wined on first use. It was fairly loud. Like a power steering pump running dry. The guy that rebuild it said it was a burr in the machine work and it would go away. Not sure if this is your issue but thought I would mention. He was right about mine the wining went away about a week later and the transmission was fine thereafter.

Hopefully its something simple.

have you tried to put the TC in low to see if the noise goes away?
I know what you mean about being hard to tell if the twin stick is actually in the position you think it is. It relies somewhat on faith

The front drive (drivers side) should be in neutral (center position). The rear drive (passenger side) should be all the way back (high) If the interlock pills are still in the transfer case the front drive will not shift until the rear is shifted, and the you will only have two choices, Neutral or the range the rear is already in...

Was the T-case rebuilt?

I hope that helps

Once you get it sorted , I would like to hear how you like the 4R70W. You did it yourself? How was it getting it installed?? Also do you have a body. lift?

Thanks and good luck!

Make sure the transmission or transfer case are not touching the body anywhere.
I went from a 3" body lift to a 1" body lift and this caused my T-19 4 speed to rest against a floor brace. It was very loud inside the cab. You could hear every gear whine. Just a thought.

Thanks I am pretty positive I’m in low and that I am missing one more shift on t-case. It really feels as of it is binding. It was not rebuilt prior we just added the twin stick and changed fluid. This is all the movement I have on the rear shifter

Well as Stupid as it is I found the problem and fixed it. Sometimes just stepping away and going back at it Another day you see things clearly. The rear shifter was hitting the advance adapter and I could not see it. All it took was spacing that rear shifter out just enough to clear the adapter. Just had a real test drive and everything seems to be working and shifting pretty good. I can tell it needs to be re-geared but other than that I have no complaints. Thanks for all the advice
