5.0 and 4r70w mated and I screwed up! Could have ruined the transmission pump!

Hello all,

I married my 4r70w today to my 5.0. I didn't seat the converter far enough on. I figured it out when I couldn't crank the motor to put the flywheel bolts on. Super rookie mistake!

Everything went on and spins freely now. What are the odds I am ok? I guess I could have ruined the transmission pump. Do you think I am fine? Or pull it apart and buy the $120 pump and replace?

Thanks for the help

The inner pump gear on a 4R70W is a lot more durable than a C4 gear. You're probably ok.

I talked with my buddy that owns a 4x4 shop with a transmission repair specialist. He said to not worry about it. He said I would have heard a crack or a break. But, repairing it now would be an hour and 120$. Later on, it would be expensive.

Thoughts?

I hooked up the starter directly to a battery, everything turned and seemed fine. I believe the transmission would still sort of work with a broken pump. It would make an awful noise.

I might risk it, if it is broken the I will just rebuild the whole tranny.
