Doing a build with a pile of stuff from different sources.
I think i have a problem, looking for some input about it, and if so, how to resolve it. The motor has a new 50oz balancer on it, and it came with the 157tooth flywheel to match. I resurfaced it...looks great.
I've got a NP435 to match, however, the bell housing that came with the 5.0 doesnt marry up the transmission correctly. I grabbed the old 1968 289 manual bell housing, and the tranny bolt holes matches it. So far so good...

The motor / tranny shield plate was from the 91, and at the starter location, doesnt match the bell hsg from the old 289, all else is great.

Will a bell hsg designed for the old 289 with a 164 tooth flywheel accomodate the starter and the 157t flywheel thats on it?

??
I cant just use a 164t flywheel, as it is 28oz, not 50oz.
Help me out here....is there another bell hsg that marries a 5.0 to a NP435 ??

You need a 164 tooth flywheel, I think late 80s early nineties f150 with 302 is what I used.

You will also need a little bracket to mount the clutch linkage mount to the motor, the late model blocks don't have a mounting boss that the earlier ones have, any of the bronco suppliers should have them.

You need a 164 tooth, 50 oz. flywheel. They were used in '80s and '90s Ford trucks with the 5.0s. You can purchase them from our vendors last time I checked. use with the stock bell housing and you'll be golden.

By the way, Your 50oz, 164 tooth flywheel will be patterned for an 11 inch truck clutch. Some aftermarket 164 tooth flywheels will be dual patterned for 11 inch diaphragm, and 11 inch long clutch. some might even have the old 10 inch long clutch pattern.

But the metric pattern 10.4 inch mustang clutch from your 157 tooth flywheel won't fit. You can see the 3 dowel pins on the metric clutch that are not on the truck flywheel...
