6 cyl 3 speed does it need rebuilt?

I have a 66 with a 6 cylinder and a three speed. It feels like it goes into first fine but when ya let out the clutch it just grinds. The linkage is all real tight and if you go from reverse to first it will sometimes go. I was wondering if rebuilding it is best or just replace it with a rebuilt one or if there is another common problem with them?

So are you saying that when the truck is running....you push the clutch in....put it in first gear....and when you start to let the clutch out...it starts to grind? Have you let the clutch out all the way?

Worn out column and/or shift linkage is what it sounds like to me. My '67 is in the same condition..

Probably has worn synco's if the shift linkage is adjusted properly.Might be a good idea for a rebuild.

I pretty sure the linkage is tight enough when i put it in first and lay under it and manually try and push it in further, it will not go any further, guessing its the syncros too just wanted to see if there was something i didnt know.

disconnect the linkage from the tranny, manually put tranny in gear then start motor with clutch in then try driving, that removes linkage as problem.
