I am going to have the paint stripped off of everything that will unbolt from the body then use a angle grinder and flap disc to clean the rust up. Then I am going to blast the tub. I am actually getting pretty excited about getting this painted so I can enjoy most of the summer in a Bronco that looks decent and runs really good.

My cheap sand blaster has arrived! I have some honey do's to get done first but I hope to be blasting some metal by the end of the week great timing as next weekend is a 3 day weekend. I hope to have plenty of time to work on the Bronco. ;D

P.S this is where all the helpful sand blasting gurus offer up some hints!

I have been doing some work to the Bronco trying to get it ready for paint. As you will see if I find rust I am cutting it out. I am just going to weld in patches rather than replace the panels.

These are all pics of the tear down/ rust removal I will post pics of the Welds/patches later.

Not sure how I missed this post. I have to give you this brother...you're up to a challenge. That amount of rust would scare me off. I'm gonna follow this from now on. Good luck!

Who's that fine looking honey helping you? I don't believe you've introduced us.;D

You know, I had to rethink if I'd ever made inapropriate comments to him/her before.. So, I guess, thanks to the internet, I have to ask: Freak, is that you or your better half??%)

Thanks It does have a lot of rust, but I am attempting to change that! I have learned a lot messing around with this Bronco but that was part of my reasoning for buying it Bronco in the first place. Whatever I do it will be better than it was when I started because it couldn’t of gotten much worse and still been called a Bronco. It would have been called "scrap!" ;D I am attempting to bring this one back and make a decent rig that I can drive anywhere, Plow snow and look good doing it.

The beautiful young lady gracing the first photo is my 14 year old daughter Jacque, She happens to be the only one of my 4 children that doesn’t hate Broncos! I love it when she comes down to the Barn and helps me out. Let me tell you she is good at turning a wrench!

Awesome!!! I originally started my Bronco with my 15yr old son.. He quickly figured out that it was work and that I'd be better suited to do it than him.... Long story short, my project has stalled several times due to lack of help.. Keep her going!! Congratulations!!!

Weekend Progress with pics!

I worked on the Bronco all day Friday and most of the day Saturday. I made some pretty good progress. There is a lot of rust spots needing to be replaced on this Bronco and I keep finding more and more. My Plans have changed from a “ quick paint Job” to a make it so I am painting metal not rust paint job.

After this weekend’s work here is what I decided to do.

1.take the front clip off and replace it with the old one from my 66.
2. cut out and replace all metal that needs it
3. pull the body off and sand blast everything
4. paint everything that doesn’t get exposed to the sun with POR15
5. put the body back on the frame and paint the body.

Here is a rundown of the pics….
I windowed the door jams to take out the thread plates that are trashed.
I got creative using angles and 16ga and got the cowl ready to be welded up
I repaired the pass door striker with some 14ga angle.
I cut out the pass side floorboard right behind the bulkhead and replaced it with some 14ga.

And lastly I spent from noon until 10pm Saturday (with a 2 hour break) fabricating my new rear quarter on the passenger side. I didn’t have a single good panel to use so I ended up piecing together pieces of 5 (yes I said 5!) different panels to get my end result. It still has to be welded together but I am happy with how it is turning out.

I realized something else this weekend about Bronco’s I enjoy working on them as much as driving them. I had a lot of fun this weekend.
