76 Bronco Speedometer Cable Gear

When I got my '76, the speedometer didn't work so, I removed the cable from the transfer case. There was no speedo gear on the end of the cable. My question is: does the gear just slide onto the cable and then I insert the cable with the gear attached into the transfer case or is there a seal and/or clip that needs to be attached to the gear before I do this? This is my first time working with speedo cables.

the speedo gears attaches to the cable before you install it in the t-case. i believe there is a clip that goes on the gear somewhere near the middle, just before the teeth.

I ordered a speedo gear from JBG and it didn't come with a clip. I haven't seen a speedo gear clip for sale on any of the usual sites, including JBG. Any ideas?

JBG does have the clips, just bought one and a new speedo gear this week. Go to there website type in speedometer in the search box. ;)

Thanks. Don't know how I missed it before. I think I'll check the local parts store to see if they may have one. Can't see making an order for a $1.00 part!

Hmmmmm, No spedo gear? sounds like Odometer tampering.
Oh well, does it really matter in a 30+ year old truck? (unless it's a Rebuilt motor with "no miles" on it)
