so my uncle drove his 88 f450 truck up to my house from mobile Alabama. his nearly brand new transmission which turns out to be a zf5 (that lucky bastard) is leaking from what appears to be a weap hole where the adapter for the transmission brake meets the transmission.

I have a couple of questions:

is that weap hole supposed to be there or is that damage from the guy that rebuilt the transmission?

is there a blown seal or gasket in there that we need to replace?

Will that adapter thing pull off? he said it was a real bitch to get off. like they guy that rebuilt it had to hang the transmission from the tail housing and use some kind of press to get it off?

could the transmission be overly full of fluid and this cause the problem?

should i just tell him to leave the truck here so i can put the EFI 460 and the zf5 in my bronco :)

thanks guys!

From my understanding that tailshaft brake bolts up just like a transfer case. So it should have a seal in it like a transfer case.

It should unbolt and come right off. The seal is leaking. The weep hole is there to drain any oil that makes it past the seal. Make sure the bearings in that brake assembly feel good and the shaft/drum don't have a lot of side play.
