Anaerobic Sealer or What do you use?

Anyone use this stuff? Pretty expensive but supposedly the best. Several testimonies and a search at Pirate turned me on to it along with some research on the web. Supposedly regular old rtv/sillicone "walks" when you apply it to areas like a transfercase and transmission whereas anaerobic sealant tolerates the play and seals from the lack of oxygen.

If you don't use this stuff, what do you use? And do you still buy and use the gasket sets for your application?

there are some particular years of cummins diesel engines that had main bearing cap fretting problems. i just rolled new mains into one a week ago and the campaign said to apply that same sealant to the mating surfaces where the caps meet the block. they arent trying to seal anything,but applying that make the sufaces 70% less likely to slip at all i guess. the package i use i believe was loctite 518 not sure, i dont think its really meant to be a gasket or seal, i think its more for mating surfaces you dont want to move like if you had a companion flange style drive shaft or something, but im not sure.
for sealing use "the right stuff" it comes in a presurized can like easy cheese, its the best.

just looked at the links, they are definately saying to use it as sealing gasket, i have no idea why cumminjs wants it on the main caps other than to not slip. ?:?

I like anarobic sealer. It is what finally stopped the inspection cover leak on the transfer case. Not the same as Silicone. Where silicone can work on rough, cast surfaces, anaerobic only seals well on 2 matching machined surfaces. Also works very good to seal core plugs.

Where the only sealers I used back when I was a backyard hack was silicone and Teflon tape (evil stuff), I now have a collection of sealers depending on the application. Teflon paste for plumbing, Silicone for rough or gap filler, Anarobic for tight, machined surfaces.

i'm curious about how well it would seal on a rough surface, considering the website says it can seal up to a .050 gap. i know that's probably not a whole lot. also, do you use the "primer" for it (Loctite 7649)? I suspect it's over kill but oh well!
