Another example of the need for a rollbar

I was scanning a national salvage auction site for a couple items for potential future projects and thought I'd see if they had and EB's while I was there. Sure enough, there is one that is actually very close to me.

As you can see, they do not hold up to well in a roll over, especially without a hardtop (which does not do much either).

Here is a potential fixer upper that looks to have a Mallotte tub (no tailgate)

Would you guys suggest a roll cage kit or a pre-fab cage. The pre-fab cages sure are purdy but cost alot! Would the kit be fine with some good welds? Is the pre-fab cage like Wild Horses worth it?

If you can weld it buy the kit. If you have to pay someone to weld it you could have enough in it to pay to have an assembled one shipped.

Thank you mud stud.
This is why I am here. You just can't always find folks on a forum willing to answer stupid questions like mine.

If you don’t know ask. I believe it would be stupid not to ask

It had a simple 4 point roll bar. You can see where it pushed in the rear wheel well.
Good find Drew.
I will be adding frame tie ins soon to mine.

Just goes to show that a simple 4-point cage will do a LOT! Draw a line from the radiator cap to the top of the bar, it will be flat in between. A cage would have the same damage. just a few more inches the windshield wouldn't have folded in. It wouldn't look as bad, but it wouldn't be in any better shape.

Another thing a simple 4-point will do that it doesn't get the credit for, preventing a full roll. A simple side flop will stop on it's side with a roll bar. Where without the roll bar to stop it on its side it tends to keep going over and look like the white one above.

Wow... I don't care if you have a simple 4 point roll bar or full custom cage, anything has got to be better than no protection at all and pancaked.
