Speaking of weep holes... I removed said failed pump yesterday. In the case of Explorer pumps, there is a pressed-in plug that looks like a freeze plug in the casting below the shaft. There's a notch in the bore that it's pressed into. That's the weep hole. Just parked, engine stone-cold (it was 45° out) there was a steady drip coming out of it.
I pulled my junkyard pump off the shelf, an actual Ford part, and tried turning the impeller. It felt like new. Gave it a good scrubbing so it looked less old, and installed it. Haven't driven it yet, but unless the seal is blown in that one I expect (hope?) it'll be fine for awhile. Maybe I'll get lucky and it will be like my last one.
If I completely run out of things to do (anyone who knows me will agree that's highly unlikely) I may borrow my neighbor's press and attempt to dismantle the FlowKooler pump for an autopsy.
