link works now.
the bolt shouldn't have sheared. there is no indication of enough force to shear it, as the heim is still intact. the monoball & casing are still round. i'd have to say the bolt got loose and fell out. i've seen aircraft grade heims that have had the casing split and peeled on the impact, yet the gr 8 bolt was still intact.

looking at the pictures, i noticed that the heim on the knuckle is double nutted using 2 castle nuts. why not a good locking nut or drill the bolt to use a pin in the castle nut?
shame it got flopped. i remember the ad on ebay for the truck a while back. it's a nice ride.

The gr9 that went in as a replacement has a locker on it (now). It had a pin, previously.

Hey TexZen, how did the shop do? Any pics of the final repair?

Mastercraft did a terrific job. 'After' pics are intermingled with those of the wreck. Simple guide: if the rig looks ok, it was taken after I got it out of the shop.

TexZen - thanks for reposting the link (temporarily). Bronco looks great - from the pictures looks like the shop did a great job. Really like the two tone seats against the black interior. Wish mine looked that nice.

Random funny moment from the wreck:

After the EMS made a brief appearance (pass by a Bronco on its side, call the medics, I guess) and found I was up and able, one marveled at my being un-bruised and un-bloodied and asked if I had been wearing my seat belt.

I replied, "No, but the air bags fully deployed."

Hey TexZen, isn't there a seatbelt law down there or were you just jerking our chain? Any way, hope the cage helped assist your safty. I noticed that you have never posted here on "Classic Bronco's" before. Hopefully you won't dissapear when the this thread dies. The more help we can get around here the better. And you seem to keep things entertaining ;D

I was jerking the EMT's chain. Without seatbelts, I would have had a face full of glass and 'Tom's Bronco Parts' stamped into my chest (albeit in reverse). I guess at that point in my morning I wasn't entertaining assinine questions with a lot of self restraint.

I'm absolutely certain the cage helped me out of a tight jam. Without it I would have gone over and, at the very least, needed some help in getting out from under the pile.

I found the forums, and specifically this thread, when the mad rush for photos began. I don't know how talkative I'll be (my work keeps me really busy and often out of the country), but I'm sure I'll check in on occasion.
