To get myself and the Bronco to OCBR I have to get to MS from Pittsburgh and then to Hot Springs, then obviously everything in reverse after it ends. The truck I tow the bronco with is in Pittsburgh, however Bradlee now has a 1/2 ton Chevy short bed with V8 and the necessary hitch. It would sure help me to be able to fly rather than drive so considering using the Chevy. I guess my concern is the truck being short wheel base pulling a 16ft trailer with the bronco for 325 miles one way....what are opinions...thoughts???

I've done many short trips pulling the EB on a heavy solid deck dove tail (with electric brakes) and late model Tahoe. Aside from beating up the tranny a bit and having to keep an eye on trans temp above 60mph, I think with due care you will be fine.

Find a copy of the owners maual, most of them are online these days. Look up the towing ability of the truck as optioned. Some half ton trucks can pull great others can't pull a jet ski. If the numbers check out, go for it.

As said, load it with the proper tongue weight, brakes and care it can be done with ease. A weight distributing hitch would make a world of difference in the ride and handling. If you have never used one, it is difference in daylight and dark as to how it handles.

If you remember, Crewdg has towed his down on a 16 ft trailer with his F150. It is an automatic with a 302. He's wasn't able to climb some of those hills like a madman but with patience he didn't have any problems. We never pushed to hard and he did have trailer brakes. It's definitely more important to get the load stopped than moving.

I just towed my Bronco and 18' trailer full of camping gear with my Tundra over several 11,000' passes in Colorado and back. I've also done the 800+ mile round trip to AZ and back several times. Yes a 3/4 ton diesel truck would be better but some times you need to 'run what you brung' so to speak.

As said proper tounge weight and trailer brakes are a MUST have. Other than that, take your time and be careful with your following distance and you should be fine.
