Alright. Dont burn me at the stake! Anybody ever run a Jeep jk steering box on their bronco. They look very identical and in the jk world there are tons of steering gear options! Including ported boxes for hydro assist. Just curious if they are at all compatible??

I've heard the JK boxes have a poor track record. So poor that the aftermarket is making new sector shafts for them.

I don't remember talk of anyone ever trying it. Been enough decent options for the past few years that maybe nobody thought of the need.
Not a bad direction of thought, but if there are problems like stated, it might not be worth the effort.

Got a pic of one for reference in this thready by the way?

Thanks

Paul

2007 model year JK steer boxes were produced by Saginaw

Everything after was made in China due to Benz's cost cutting measures and has a poor reputation.

Jeep WJ's used a Delphi/Saginaw 600 series box, just like the Xterra. The box in my Bronco is a RHD WJ box.

I have a right hand drive (jeep) box. Thought I was getting a new steering box from... long story...anyway it's right hand and works. Had it rebuilt at Red Head.

Does everybody here know that the Saginaw Steering Division was divested and renamed Delphi?

The Steering box that everyone calls a "Saginaw" is typically the Saginaw 700 series, in common use from the 60's thru the 90's and beyond.

The "Delphi" design is named the Delphi 600, and is made by the same people in the same factories. (although as stated above...can be sourced from China.)

The Delphi 600 box has a removable valve body, similar to the Ford corporate box. (not the Ford steering box used in 73-77 Broncos, which is a Saginaw 700 design) The Saginaw 700 has an integral valve housing. So it has a big nut on the input side.

the Box on the JK Wrangler appears to be the Delphi design, but as previously noted...needs to be sourced from a RHD Jeep, or a Nissan xTerra.

I'm going to go look at my 07 JK, and I'll let you know what it has. The Delphi 600 is supposed to have a bigger piston, so that might make it a better box.

Has anyone ever measured the maximum sector shaft rotation on the Delphi Box? I KNOW that the 4x4x2 box does not turn as far as the Saginaw box.

thx.

I just checked my 2007 JKUR built in June, 2007. It is Left Hand Drive.

Factory installed steering box is a Delphi style. Obviously no good for an Early Bronco because the sector shaft is on the wrong side. But a Right Hand Drive one could be made to fit. I think i'd rather run the Nissan Box, because the sector shaft is closer to the mounting pad...and would put less stress on the frame.
