Anybody install a receiver behind the bumper?

The cradle/winch combo in the receiver hanging below the bumper looks goofy. Is fabbing a receiver higher, right behind the bumper a bad idea? The winch height would sure look better.

It's this or Hanson bumpers. I'm having trouble letting go of the chrome factory bumpers.

I saw one that someone made a run of on here. They were Stroppe repros. The main support mounted behind the stock bumper so the only thing visible was the tab or receiver tube. Don't remember which it had.

I too wanted to keep the stock bumper, so I built a reciever into my front bumper to accept the winch. Works awesome, and got a #2 to plug the hole!

When I had my stock chrome rear bumper, a buddy gave me a hitch that I modified and welded between the rear frame rails. I cut a square in the bumper where the receiver fit in.

That's it, thanks for verifying! Much cleaner look for the amount of time the winch will be in place.

I made a couple in the past.

First a class I/II for hitch accessories:

Then a Class-III for a front tow point:

Thanks, I just bent some tubing and welded it on to the stock bumper, then added the reciever to the frame with the tube extending just far enough out. The pin needs to be put in from behind just inside the bumper. I little pita, but doable for the few times I use my winch. i added the greasy eyebolts just for show. I plan to replace them with stronger attachments someday for doubling the winchline back if need be. I also have a clevis that fits into the reciever for attaching a tow strap. Called the Ditch Hitch.
