AOD adapter....switching transfer cases

I'm getting ready slap an AOD in the EB. The AOD I have came with a J shift transfer case bolted to it. I have a T shift transfer case that came out of my EB and that I was thinking of running. I pulled the J shift case off the AOD last night, and it looks like I need to change the input shaft into the transfer case over.

The T shift I have was behind a C4 with a factory Bronco adapter. As can be seen in the pics, the input shaft length is about 1.5" longer on the T shift case vs. the J shift case. I didn't assemble this AOD combo, so I'm not sure what is all included in the conversion. I looked on Advance Adapters site and see there is what appears to be a transfer case input shaft in the pic??? Does this AA conversion come with a unique input?

Since I was thinking of running my existing T shift behind the new AOD, how difficult is it to change over the input shafts from the J case to the T case? Do I also need to switch over the aluminum bearing holder that is on the transfer case? I looked for instructions downloads on the AA website, but I don't think they have any listed online.

Also, how many bolts should there be attaching the AA adapter to the AOD case?

Blue case is the J shift.

The T-shift appears to have the stock bearing retainer and spud. The J-shift looks like a retainer/spud for the AOD conversion. You can easily swap them by just pulling them out of the tcases. I'd swap the input gears also. Keep the input gear with the tcase it came from. They should have the same tooth count but the tooth pitch may be different between them.

Thanks Viperwolf...what is involved in swapping the input, spud shaft? You mentioned pulling it out...is there a clip or something else holding it in place?

You are correct, the T shift is stock Bronco C4 input, the J is the AA AOD conversion. I didn't know they would be different until I pulled the J shift case off the AOD last night. I was thinking Automatic trans to transfer case inputs would all be the same....clearly not.

You lost me on the input gear swap part.....you said keep the input gears with the case they were originally in.....will the input gear come out with the input shaft/spud when I go to swap them over from case to case?

Anyone have a set of instructions from AA for the AOD conversion they could post up? Thanks in advance.

The retainer is lightly pressed in and there's an o-ring around the retainer that is supposed to seal it. If you gently tap around it while pulling it should work itself out. Oh, set the tcase up so the input is facing up before you pull the retainers. That will keep the 13 roller bearings from dropping into the tcases. Once you get the retainer out you'll see the snap ring that holds the input gear on to the spud shaft. Be sure to get the gear back on in the same direction it comes off or you'll have issues.
