Also, if my gas gauges aren't working, would this be the time to address this issue too?

They are the same, I had trouble with the flat Orings sealing. So I used actual Orings just got a couple approved for use with gasoline. Viton I think.

I have good luck with the Ford rings. Grease them up a little and bend the locking tabs a little to provide good pressure. Ford dealer will have them in stock for about $1 each.

If you can I would definitely reuse your stock locking rings.
The aftermarket ones that I've tried using suck.
