AUX Fuel Tank Leak (drip, drip, drip)

HI Guys,

I'm a newbie trying to work on his truck and have small leak in my AUX tank. Seems to be coming from where the hose attaches to the tank under the driver’s seat. What do I need to do or replace to get this leak fixed?

The pic is from where the dripping is originating.

I can't take the gas fumes in the garage any longer......

that looked like my leak but it wasn't the senderunit/ hose, it was the top of the tank cracked open. You might want to drain it of fuel in any event, then remove the sending unit /hose and see if the neck is damaged, or maybe just a bad hose or gasket. If not, you'll need to drop tamk to see top which is where mine cracked open.

I found out about mine the hard way, at the gas station filling it up wondering why there was a stream of water running from under my truck, it was gas...

73az - that is the worst way to find out you have a leak! Sorry to hear that.

I'm a rookie and embarrassed to say that I'm not sure how to:
1) drain the tank (aside from driving it)
2) remove the sending unit / hose to get a better look.

Any tips would be appreciated!

If you can't afford or don't want to buy a new tank....their is a product called waterweld made by JB weld, and it will fix your leak for about a year until you decide what you want to do!

Had the exact same problem with plastic aux tank from one of the Bronco vendors.

Tried new o rings, jb weld, etc.

Ended up replacing with new metal aux tank.

Expensive, but it solved the problem.

Another Newbie here, you could go to the fuel selector valve, clamp off the hose from the aux tank, (small vise grips work great) disconnect the hose from the valve then carefully drain into an appropriate container. This will allow the tank to empty. I have a 70, I found the emissions system the first time i tried to fill the tank when the gas started flowing out. I didn't loose much but at $4.00/ gallon it really sucked.

Is it difficult to remove the sending unit / hose? What tools are needed?

Mine looked just like that, however like above it was leaking out of the top. Cracked on the top, even with the sendin unit. Apparently the seat belt bolt I had was long enough to either crack it when I tightened it, or the tank was hitting it as I drove.

My didn't leak fast enough to make a puddle, so I figured it out finally after running out of gas on my aux 2x...I could've swore it was full and waiting to be used...apparently it all leaked out or evaporated.

I tried some JB Weld, worked for about 6 months then started leaking. If it's a crack, try a radiator shop or you could try to plastic weld. If it's the sending unit, they can be hard to seal up for good. You can get a new o-ring and locking ring from the vendors. I remember right, the locking ring is twisted then it let's everything come out.
