Interesting. You are the first person I have heard from that has been even aware of the tube extensions inside, much less what the purpose is. The impression I get from talking to a couple vendors is that the new aftermarket tanks don’t have those tube extensions.
My Bronco is a ‘69, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a tank from a ‘70 or ‘71.
Regardless, it doesn’t have the evap canister anymore.

Ah, I must’ve been thinking of another discussion. I thought yours was a 71. A 69 would not have come with a charcoal canister from the factory at least.

Ha! Sometimes I wonder if mine is truly a ‘69. The 302 engine block, intake manifold, carburetor has stamps from a few different years.
It’s hard to tell how much is really original except that’s what the title says.

Single motor electric wipers?
Single or dual diaphragm vacuum advance?
Lighted side markers or reflector type?
Power steering?
Automatic transmission?
T or J-shift transfer case?

Part number identification is a little finicky on Fords, but can still be added to the list of clues.

Single motor wipers
Vacuum advance unknown
Power steering added by PO
Was a 3 speed on the column, but PO replaced it with a 4 speed NP435

Also, reflector type side markers.
Are all the clues indicating a true ‘69?

But got sidetracked from the main topic…sending units for the aux tank.
First, Tom’s does offer a different sending unit for the aux tank compared to the main tank. I ordered one today.
Second, I did a little experiment today with the aux tank removed by turning the tank upside down to see if the float moved freely. I compared a sending unit for a main tank to my old unit from the aux tank. BOTH floats cleared the internal fill pipe by extending past the end of the internal fill pipe.

I suspect the shorter unit from Tom’s probably gives a better calibrated movement relative to the gauge (because of less volume of the aux tank).

Will see how it all works out when I get it installed.

I guess when it comes right down to it what does the VIN say? That’s your only real way to discern what your vehicle is.
Does the VIN on the frame match the VIN on your registration? Same is on the glove box warranty plate?
