Backup Light Switch for Winters / Carr?

Guys with Art Carr or Winters Shifters, how'd you rig up a backup light switch? I just got a Winters R / P lockout and it does come with the NSS (or Park Safety Switch ;) ).

I would also like to rig up a backup light switch since my rig will see time on the road. I have a backup / reverse light switch I can use from a Lokar kit, but need some help with ideas making it all work.

Anyone done this, or are most people running one of these either not driving on the road, or not worrying about backup lights?

Thanks!

I have a detent switch that came with my cheetah. Seems to be an identical shifter with the exception of the handle and gate.
I am using the c-4 NSS mounted on the trans. so I guess you can have the detent switch if you want it.

I always use a floor mount dimmer switch. Great for hooking up a trailer, tailgaters, or just anytime use at all. Work slick and they be cheap.

Thanks guys. Dimmer switch on floor is definitely a good idea, but I'd like to find something a little more automatic that goes on as soon as I put her in R before I go that route.

broncow72, you have any pics of the NSS mounted on the trans, and how it works with the Cheetah linkage? PO put in some form of a B&M QuickSliver, which means the original NSS and backup switches are no longer on my trans - you need to cut them off for the B&M install - but maybe I could rig something up.

I'll see what I can do this afternoon.

So, after way too much time messin' around unsuccessfully trying to fab something up, I finally just went with a radio shack rocker switch for the backup-lights. Should work fine.

When running the cable through the body, did you use any kind of grommets or anything else to protect the cable or no? (Is that cable metal sleeved all the way up?)

Thanks - almost there. (Not enough time to work on this...)

The outer jacket of the cable is pretty tough, but since the hole in my floor was a little larger than the cable and I tend to be a bit anal about my prep, I sleeved the cable with a small piece of fuel line and a couple of T&B zip ties to maximize the abrasion resistance.

Sounds like we come from the same school of tending to be a little anal... ;D
(That's unfortunately why in the 2.5 years I've had this thing, I've only driven it a handful of times, and haven't even been off-road yet. I've been too busy finding sh!t that either has to be fixed - or that I just want done better...the latter is a personal problem I'm working on... I need to just start driving this damn thing. :p )

That'll work, thanks! I'll probably end up doing the same.

Do you have a pic of this detent switch from Cheetah?
