Bad Switch?

Calling Viperwolf for electrical... ;)

Help! No turn signals.

Hazards and all markers work perfect.

Tried swapping with the good hazard flasher - nada (hazard on column - '77)

Tried swapping with new 552 flasher - nada

I've got 12V at turn signal flasher pigtail. I believe it is the orange that has 12V power at key ON and the blue is 0.

I'm thinking bad switch or bad connection at the factory steering column plug/disconnect.

Anyone seen this before? Don't really want to fish a new signal switch. Thanks in advance.

You can short the orange-yellow wire to the blue wire at the flasher (I'd short it with a light bulb) to provide constant power to the turn circuits. If the bulb doesn't light you have no connection to ground (normal if TS switch is OFF, not normal if ON).

Also the hazard switch on the later columns needs to pass the TS power when it's in the OFF position. Might try some contact cleaner on the hazard switch.

Shorted it with a marker light pigtail and bulb. Only time I can get the bulb to light is if power the bulb with orange/yellow wire and a ground on the body (used the transfer case boot screw to body). It will not light through blue wire in ON, OFF, signals on/off, etc.

Take the horn off and clean the 6 copper contacts on the switch there?

Thanks Viper.

I'd just spray the cleaner through the hole around the knob and work the switch back and forth. Even if you take the wheel off it's hard to get to the haz switch.

If that doesn't work you can test for voltages on the TS switch.

Viper,
You ever cracked open a late model hazard switch? That is my problem. Voltage is not passing through the hazard switch and off to the turn signal switch (or at least it is intermittent - I had it working with the switch out of the column, but put it back in and it didn't work again). Wondering if you've repaired them like a NSS.

I have not. I don't know if it's possible. I suppose you could give it a try. Worst case is you'll need a new TS switch.

Got it. It's the funniest little things sometimes. It was the connection at that rivet and connector on the hazard (circled). Just a hair loose. Power comes in at the lower blue wire, passes through to the other blue wire on the hazard, and off to the blue wire on the turn signal (just like you mentioned). I bent the connection a little and it's good to go. ;D Might do a little solder there too if you think I'd be safe. I don't think I could hurt anything inside with a quick blast. THANKS VIPER!

Good troubleshooting. I don't think you could hurt it with a little solder. Just don't let it flow into the switch.
