Here's my update.. Gordon had to bend my axle tubes on the 14 bolt back into shape.. Got everything cleaned up and the axle is ready to go back underneath the rig. The aluminum links have been made and are going to be running Johnny Joints. The brackets on the frames are going on as well. Looks lke I'll have a 4th design of exhaust on this rig (4 systems in 4 years). I need to quit changing stuff. Oh well...

Also changed the tires over to the Maxxis Trepador Competition Sticky tires.

Lookin pretty slick! Gonna be nice when it is done. As a question, is this a trailered rig? You drive this baby on the street as well? I think that it is awesome and is something that I would eventually like to tackle on mine one day. Keep the pics coming.

As for the truss, I noticed that the johnny joints are mounted horizontally instead of vertically. I have only seen them vertical in other 4 links and was wondering if this orientation will affect the performance of the suspension?

Yes I still drive it on the street, but trailer it to wheel and events. I will keep my other tires and rims and just swap out as needed.

The joints are mounted horizontally to get better separation/triangulation and you can get them closer together. The johnny joints have 30 degrees to work with. Even as the suspension cycles, the joints will never bind. You would be amazed how they barely move.

Should have more pics tomorrow as the towers and bar being ran under the tub should be finished and the ORI's shouls be mounted by Friday. Exhaust Saturday is the plan..

that truss looks familiar%):-X;)

your going to like this set up so much better. The same forces that were bending your leaf springs and torque bar are what bent your housing. Now instead of those items flexing, moving around and bending or breaking, it will push you forward. The move from leafs to properly set up links is truly unbelievable.

Very nice Kyle. Can't wait to see that set up working in person some day....if you don't change it before then. ;)

I'm starting to think my rig needs to spend a winter in OK. ;D

What were your thoughts on the pic I sent you with the offset on the wheels? Im on the fence and will check it out when the rears are on and out of the shop. possibly swap to the more backspacing ones but its only 3/4". Maybe I'm just being too picky.

My setup has been completely awesome after Gordon got done with it about a year ago.. In fact it is working so well and traction is insane that I am finally going to change the rear end over to a 4 link with ORI's. Ended up going with the 12" ORI's for the rear instead of 14" to keep everything out of the body. 12" will perform good. Going ot keep the body full and wont be able to tell that the rear is linked from inside the cab. All tubing will be ran underneath the both connecting the two towers. Going to use aluminum links as well. We pushed the rear axle back as far as the leaf springs would allow (5"). He is going to try and get a couple more out of it when he starts cutting. Parts have started to roll in so it will be crunch time to get it done in time for the LEBC Roundup.

Hey Klye, the rig is sweet man, saw it at the stampede. I'm sure this mod is been growing on you---you are screwed--- it aint ever gonna stop now;D looking foward to see the new look:cool:

Thanks. It never ends. Went to OCBR 3 years ago and gone back every year. Funny thing is that I have changed it all three times. And now looking at year 4 with another upgrade.

Sorry I got side tracked....:p

it is 1-1/2" wider over all and with the 37's it will make the diffs some what more vulnerable to to hanging up. I'd be really tempted to swap them, we can talk about it more though, may have option three....

No sadly I will not be able to make it to the roundup, I'm strapped to my desk until July.... My assistant that keeps things together while I'm gone is out until June and I can't take time off in June, making a living is getting in the way of all the fun.

OH yeah, all the past issues are a thing of the past, nothing is indestructable but the frame will give up before the links and mounts due, accept for maybe the perfect rock, at the perfect speed, at the perfect spot with the perfect force to take out a control arm. Chances of that are very, very slim.

J/K Brother Kyle. I hope it's stout as sheet. Not like it won't change for 2015 anyway. :-X :D:cool:

Gotta ask - why the swap back to 37's? seemed the 40" Crawlers fit pretty nice. Too much fender rub? Or was it purely based on the tire you wanted?

Keeping my eyes on this one, a 4-link would be pretty outstanding.
