Been chasing this problem for four days now. HELP! Trying to get my brake lights to come on. Have hazards, turns, blinkers, have power to brake switch on pedal (one side power, then depress and other side power; it's okay). When I depress brake, turn signal indicator comes on???? What now?

Hmm, are you getting power back at the lights in the rear? Trace your wires make sure Brake wires are going to brake lights. Doesn't make sense turn signal indicators are coming on if things are wired correctly.

The top back bulb has two lights; one for running lights and one for turn, hazard, and brake. That line lights up for turn and hazard but not brake. I assumed it did have power.

Pig tail is in correctly? Check the wire prior to connecting the pig tail to make sure you're seeing power on the line when the brake is depressed. Trace it with your power meter as you go. Sorry, I'm just tossing out ideas off the top of my head. I used a wiring kit from a supply house and it all plug'd up pretty well. I did have some issues but it was with the modifications to the blinker system to accept LED bulbs.

I would also hook it up, if all seems right and check the connection with the bulb missing, make sure its getting the voltage to the correct contacts in the bucket.

Man, I've had that thing apart a hundred times. I should tell you I installed one of those new painless wiring harness. The diagram for the old wires don't match the diagram for the new pig tail. There are 4 wires from old ( left front turn, right front, turn, left brake, right brake, but on the new pig tail there's only left and right turn. Don't know if I should try splicing them together to see if that will work.

Either the column turn signal switch is wired wrong (turn indicator shouldn't come on w/brake) or the turn signal switch is bad. Hazards tell you the rear wires/bulbs/grounds are good.

If you installed a painless system, an option is to wait until Monday and give them a call. They will walk you through it. I used their call in service a few times when I was confused with the wiring of my electronic ignition system.

Double check all grounds at all lights.

I chased a similar problem down for days, thought I had good grounds everywhere but when I went through it in detail turned out I just had bad grounds.

Check light sockets in light assemblies (I had some that had overspray and was preventing the bulb from grounding), the assembly grounds to body, and your body to battery grounds (thru frame and block).

Most of the electrical gremlins I have fought and found on my rig ended up being bad grounds. When making your grounds, don't rely on the bolt or screw, grind off paint to get a solid wire connector to body/frame ground.
