I think this one was way overbid. Very nice, but not $109K nice. Combining Ranger seats with Sport interior panels didn't do it for me.
Completely agree, seemed to be color choice and interior for his wife as the big drivers. Seemed way too much compared to some others.

I see another CA registered Coyote Bronco with an aftermarket frame registered with glovebox tag only.
How do they get away with it? Everything I’ve read is anything other than a frame VIN is illegal. Be interesting to see if anyone points that out on BAT.

On the other end of the spectrum a fairly solid and complete Bronco, but still needing lots of work, only bid to $20K. People have been paying more than that for rust buckets for the frame and matching title. I would have thought this one would be a good starting point for a restoration or restomod builld and would have gone for $25-30K?? No idea what reserve was but seller did say he was able to reach a deal with a buyer.

Bid to $20K

It gets mentioned from time to time. They get them registered somehow - it varies state by state.

Maybe it just comes back to how diligent the people are doing the registration.

The problem is not they they can get registered as much as it is a ticking time bomb for future potential owners re-registering them or finding out that the original frame got a bonded title somewhere and now they both carry the same VIN. Some states are lax when it comes to verifying and people believe that it is OK to do this. If they actually told DMV what the story was then they wouldnt get it passed. I did a level 3 inspection from DMV recently in AZ and they definitely looked for the VIN and could care less about the TAG.

I’m usually the one that asks about it (as Todd mentioned). I wonder and also hope prospective buyers realize what they’re buying into. In NV, the same. They knew where to find the vin when I got the inspection for bringing it into the state. I can’t even imagine how they’re getting away with it in CA.

Especially when the seller blatantly lies about the title being based on the glove box tag.

It is still rolling along. 156k for a home built Coyote is pretty good money. 65000 mile truck pullout and mediocre paint just did not justify the price against some of the better shop Coyote builds that are struggling to get here. The color helped it find the right two buyers. Nice truck but another surprise auction.

I agree, I always wanted to paint one a color I saw on a 1976 Porsche Tubo (Ice Green) which is similar.
I plan to go with Nato Green when I get to the paint stage, it is also a Porsche color. Just checked out the Ice green and it is fantastic! Reminds me of GM Mist Green.

And if that is/was your bronco quickturbo, I like the color on it. (y)

Even if a guy did all that in his home garage it would easily be 70k in parts even with used drivetrain. All the wiring, paint materials, interior, axles, brakes etc add up fast. Then figure how many hours it took if you did everything alone 2-4 yrs doing weekends/off time and that price is fair for our inflated economy. My pile of junk has easily 50k in parts and looks like a 5th grader built it. If i had skill to build one that nice id be happy.

Kudos Mr 57! spot on, and I bet you have a ball building and driving your Bronco, even without Porch paint.

this makes me want to quit my day job...
Been trying to do that for nearly 2 decades lol.

Appreciate the comments on the color, that is such a subjective part of a build. Ironically, I have a Ford brittany blue on the 74' Scout ii I restored and while I didn't want to copy it, I wanted to shoot for a green version. Since the vin showed the original color being Boxwood and parchment, I tried to pay that homage to it.
Honestly, I wasn't a fan of the wheels initially but my brother-in-law pushed me in that direction and eventually I really started to like them.

57baja, absolutely spot on, I did this in about 7 months, + 4mo at the body shop (outsourced the paint). I put in so much time at night/weekends that it was exhausting but at the same time it's my passion and don't feel like it's work. In the end I was able to do well enough to cover the parts and my time so in any car guys book that is a huge win LOL!

In all honesty, the winning bid exceeded my expectation so I feel blessed to have had the result I did. My plan is to do another , some minor changes as I've learned from this one. I'm just doing my job to keep our values up on this platform :)

Thats sweet if you enjoy building and came out with some ching ching! I think the color/suspension and everything else came out great. I'm trying to do the same thing on a 73 but not sure on the color. It says color code z but looks crappy copper/brown. Not sure if i should go original or pick another factory color. I'm just selling it as i already have a keeper. 🤟
