I never had this problem until I took the AC pump off. I was just using the AC pump as a idler pully but I decided to get one of those eliminator pulleys from summit. When I installed it I also got a new gates serp belt. Now when I start the engine I get a "chirp" from the belt... I know the idler doesnt have a load on it so it cant be what is chirping.... I am guessing it is the 3G altenator... But why now? The belt seems tight and the tensioner seems to be in good shape.

Just a thought here but could it be the load the starter is putting on the altenator at start up? Maybe it isnt the alt... what else typically causes the belt squeak... it is a 93 Mustang engine with the stang serp setup.

It only does it on start up....

I had this issue before with the ac eliminator pulley but mine squeaked more than just on startup. I had to use a washer to shim the pulley a little to get it to line up just right and solved the problem. Hope this help

Just in case anyone cares...

I removed the gates belt and replaced with a dayco belt from autozone... no more squeaks... so far anyway.

Thanks for that I have the same problem with a new belt. I'll change brands before going serpentine!

... Back when I worked at Chrysler ... We told the tech to remove all the belts and scrub the pulleys with Berryman's or soap and water.. Wire brush and and scrub .. Then put on a new belt .. Goodyear belt or Chrysler in our case. .. Gate sometimes make 2 belts fit one application. Say 58.5 covers 58.4. and 58.7 both .. Goodyear was good to use each correctly.
...........................
... Look and see if after the AC Eliminator was added that the belt covers at least a third of the pulley; more will help.

I think the squeak was from the alternator. The Dayco belt was a little longer than the gates belt. Squeak is gone so I am happy.
