im looking to by my tires and wonder the disadvantages of bias ply tires. they are cheaper i noticed. i am going to use them 90% of the time for off road, but i have to tow my rig to the wheeling so i wonder how they do on the road.

my iroks are bias ply. you will not notice any real differance on the road, for as little as you drive it on road.
my bias plys have thicker & better flexing sidewalls.;D

If you really spend 90% of time off road bias plys are fine. For me personally it would have to be 99.9% of the time for me to even consider bias ply.

They are fine on or off road. The sidewalls stand up a little better (or less dependant upon your out look).

There is a reason they are making a comeback in the market and you will notice it is all in radical offroad tires.

I do not like radials in the taller sizes. But thats just me. When I was first driving radials were an expensive family car tire.

You will probably not notice the difference between the two on the road, unless you have driven the exact same size tire with radial construction. Some people make the mistake of going from a 10.50X31 non agressive trend all terrain radial to say a 12.50X36 heavy lugged bias, and blame the entire difference in ride on the bias tire. The only real difference in ride will be a slightly rougher ride in the bias. Road manners for and identical size and tred pattern radial are almost the same. In fact on the taller tires the side wall flex of the radial can be a little anoying on taller tires.

Offroad in mud an equally aired up radial will float better than a bias.

You would really notice a difference in a performance car tire. In aggressive off road tires, you would be really hard pressed to tell the dif. One plus is the above mentioned stronger sidewall are more puncture resistant off road.

Bias sucks on the road.Great offroad,I had Swamper ltb and could not handle the flat spots. They also sounded like a blackhawk.

According to the Catapiller performance handbook a radial tire has about ½% less rolling resistence on hard ground compared to bias ply. Something like 2½% compared to 3%. But on softer ground the numbers are the same.

And the cord is what holds the plug in. They spit out of a bias about everytime.

when a plug(sticky cord type) is properly installed with vulcanizing cement the plug will bond to the rubber NOT THE CORD!
btw most tire mfg's consider plugs a temporary repair.%)

Properly and anything offroad do NOT go hand in hand brother. Shove some in and then try to finish your day. Maybe you can, I can not and have seen more than one or two spit back out. And these are not cheap kits we are using. And stealing pictures is bad. I'm telling mom.:)
