and that is why I have a stang

on my 75 with cobra 5.0/efi, aod/wide gears, 4.11's and 33's I would guess 12, but still need to do a lot of things before I can time it!

My brothers 73 with 351w/efi and c4 (same gear and tires) runs about 11's,

be careful, horses need to be tamed!

and drivelines need to be in good shape before laying a bunch of power down, .

Even with them in good shape, playing on pavement can cause things to break. I let a buddy take my trail rig with the 408 for a brief spin and he lit in to it too hard from a dead stop, resulting in a brief wheelstand followed by a very loud bang as the the rear drive shaft left the vehicle.

Turns out 39.5 IROKs stick to tar and chip paved road real good on a hot summer day.

Donsbolt runs 14's in the 1/4 mile with a hot 5.0, 5 spd trans, and 4.56 gears. I would guess my 350hp 347 stroker, 4.56 gears, and 5 spd runs 14's also. It is VERY fast and scary.

No I ran a 15.2 and 89 mph in the quarter mile, but now with my fuel injection and my anti wrap bar might run in high 14's. My suspension 35 inch tires, and the nv3500's low first gear all hurt me at the track.

My NV 3550 is really geared right for the quarter mile, but on the street once in 2nd gear can keep up with pretty much any modern car. First gear is a little low for acceleration,(need to shift in to 2nd at like 10 mph) but I can start in 2nd, especially if I am rolling like 5 miles a hour, then it is pretty fast.

So if you set up your bronco right, with say 300 hp, you would be surprised how fast it could be. Though the higher you lift it, the bigger your tires, the more power you will need.

I would say a nice 300-340 hp 302 2.5 lift, 33 inch tires, 410 gears, and the right trans(4 speed auto) you could do 0-60 in around 8 seconds or so. If you were to build a stock height bronco, same hp would be a fun little street ride

I find it semi-entertaining how people automatically go to the 4bbl. or just in general how people like to over carborate. headers or heads would get you more HP than a 4bbl. all you're doing there is wasting gas by dumping it in a champer and then not giving it anyplace to go.

Mine was pretty quick when it had shorter tires on it, even more so with the Barry Grant carb. I got over that after a broken D20 output shaft and a destroyed driveshaft and damaged underwear. Now it's tuned for off road and idling in off camber situations but still is not short on power when you need it.

I don't have any track slips but the SVO GT40 -351W in my 68 feels fast. Not fast for a new rig but fast for an Early Bronco. I Have a V-10 01 F250 super duty and the Bronco is faster from a roll on. First gear with the 3550 is too short for a good standing start.

I quit doing dry pavement smoke shows a few years ago when I ruined a couple of rear pinion yokes, the price of BFGs went up and did all but throw a driveline.

The extra power of a healthy 351 is nice just to make the EB drive at the same speeds or better than the other rigs on the road, in normal traffic.

2 trips down the strip. Very out of tune holley 600 on a good 351 backed by a non drag strip friendly NP435. 16.6 and 16.3 @ 86 MPH. After further tuning I was banned with the center of the crankshaft more then 24" above the ground rule. Rule applied to everyone to keep one nutcase off the track who was pulling wheelstands on a monster lifted Toyota pickup with a SBC launching off the line with a shot of NOS. To keep him away (which was a very good idea for that track) also ment I couldn't run due to the same rules. Fair enough.

Are you after quick or fast? Torque makes for quick and fun.

Your 69 got the 3 on the tree still? My stock 289 is fast enough for me. Alot of guys get crazy with there motors. I guess they love to stare at them in the garage because thats where they sit all summer. Id rather have a stock motor and drive the piss out of it than a 20k motor that overheats and runs like shit. To each ther own

Yea my rig is a stock 302, 3 on the tree. Not a fan of headers and loud exhaust. But I would like to install an NV 3350. Like I mentioned my rig is 100% street driven. My goal is to drive down the highway safely and have the acceleration to merge on successfully.

Well good thing is its still stock. Leave it that way. A bronco wasnt made to be fast....and the 3 speed column shifter is proof of that! the bronco was made to beat the hell out of off the street. Leave the 302 alone and keep the column shifter. If after a few years of it that way you still have a need for speed then youll know you made a huge mistake by selling your car. Maybe after you drive it a bit and cross a few mud holes, bash a few rocks, avoid a roolover or two, and possibly get all four tires off the ground on your way to work, then you might see the true reason you traded the muscle car for a real work horse!!

My goal is to drive down the highway safely and have the acceleration to merge on successfully.

You dont need any special motor for that. It should drive that way now. Just skip the idea of huge HP and put a few thousand miles on it before the end of the year.

Well at least I know it's possible to get there. The main reason for doing this is to establish a baseline to see how the mods actually work

The car is 100% street driven, just need 4X4 for the Alaska winters.

First upgrade is going to be Holley 4v and Performer intake.

Where in ak are u at? Just moved from there. My buddy Ryan has a red bronco with a built 351 there is Wasilla.

I'm in Anchorage. Don't see too many early broncos up here. I guess it's hard for them to survive the winter, year after year.

when i lived in skagway, there was 5 of em there. And as far as going fast, I like going fast, mine is well under the 10 secs 0-60 mine is just shifting out of second at 75. with proper suspension and everything else to boot. i feel safe going that fast. It also crawls just fine to. with my stock 351 i had to be in low range to get anywhere in the sand. now with heads cams and other stuff, i dont' even have to put it in 4wd most of the time and if i do its still in 4 hi. puts a smile on my face everytime i drive it. its your truck do what you want with it, make if fast make it slow, have fun doing either or both. either direction will cost losts of money.

I haven't ever really owned a doggy or slow EB but I sure have driven a few and they aren't very fun. To me a bronco is like part hotrod, convertible, desert racer and rock buggy. Not meant to go fast?? I guess they should have told that to the Stroppe/Ford/Jones racing programs back in the 60's and 70's. These things were desert racers long before rockcrawling was even a thought or a desire. Super strong motor surely doesn't mean you cant drive it without over-heating, on the highway, go rockcrawling or at 80 safely for that matter-- to me if an EB can't do all those things then something needs to be fixed as it should. The tires and such wont ever be a sports car but from a roll it should take off pretty well and put a smile on your face and a scare to the unsuspecting passenger :)
