Blinker / Flasher Problems

76 bronco, Painless Wiring Harnes with LEDs everywhere except the instrument cluster. All have been installed and working for a while.

I was doing a walk around last night checking the lights, blinkers, flashers, etc. All was good until I turned on the flashers. Noticed they were barely working in the rear and not in the front. Turned them off then I had no front / rear blinkers! The flasher switch now activates the front / rear marker lights (no flashing) and the right turn indicator on the cluster (doesn't blink).

Headlights (high/low), Marker Lights (all), and Brake Lights all work.

Where should I start? Thank you!

Did the LED lights just get installed? Everything worked before that?
Is the wiring harness stock original, or a replacement?

I replaced the column harness today. Definitely have some weird things going on. The new harness solved the blinker issue (maybe a coincidence) but not the hazard non-flashing issue, the gear indicator light is not illuminating, the left turn signal works but doesn't blink on the cluster, and for whatever reason, the right front blinker doesn't work when the lights are on.

It's been a while since I added the LEDs but I think I had a flasher specific to the LEDs so I will swap that out next.

It really is starting to sound like you have a ground issue.
Possibly with the front lamps because of the lack of the indicator working inside the dash.

Not a problem checking the flasher, but at least renew the grounds on the front sockets. Each of the fronts has its own individual ground wire usually, but some might ground only through the housing. I don’t remember.
I only remember separate ground wires coming out of each socket.
So that would make three wires for each one. Running lamp, turn signal and ground.

And absolutely put a ground wire from the battery negative to the body somewhere nearby.
Depending on the condition of the body panels, the front ground at the core support maybe weakened due to rust and/or paint.

Regulator appears to be connected correctly for a bronco.
Do you know what the bare red wire is this just sitting there next to the relay?

Next time you have the engine running check for voltage on the “I” terminal of the relay (not the regulator).
If you have a helper watch what the voltage does when you turn the key off.

I can’t really tell from here, but are any other wires connected to the I terminal?

That red / blue wire disappears into the sheathing abyss. I need to track that down before I connect it, at least I hope I do anyway!

So there are two Red w/blue wires?
On Ford red with blue it has only one function and usually one wire. And that’s the one to the S post of the starter relay.
That’s the one that comes from the ignition switch and cranks the starter.

On pre-73 models it was strictly from the ignition switch to the relay.
On 73 and later, when the automatic transmission became available with its neutral safety switch, that wire went through the switch.
On manual transmission Broncos from 73 to 77 there was a small jumper wire in a connector under the hood that took the place of the neutral safety switch But still allowed the back up lamp switch to work.

I wonder where the second one came from in your case.
I guess the bottom line here, though is that, as long as the starter cranks when you ask it to, that circuit is working.
You can check for 12 V on the additional wire just to see what it’s doing, but otherwise leave them as is, and cover the bare end of the wire.

Is anything additional connected to the “I” terminal?

Flasher problem solved - BAD Flasher.

Still working through the blinker issue. If it matters, I am using the 66-68 market /turn signal housing on my 76. No issue on Drivers side. Passenger blinks unless lights (Marker or headlights) are turned on.

- Two wires out to the harness. Only one wire on the 'I.'
- The unconnected red/blue is a mystery wire. I did connect it briefly but it did not change anything.
- I also renewed the ground.

Still no blinker when the lights are on. Am I missing another ground point somewhere? Thank you.
