We're committed now, I closed the back of the cowl with fiberglass, panel bonded the inner structure and then panel bonded the cowl to the hood last night. I'm going to body work/blend it all in this weekend and my dad is coming to help me paint it

Yep! My dad is coming to visit over easter and we're going to paint and install. I've got it pretty close to ready, a little more sanding tonight and it'll be ready for sealer. I'm eager to see what it looks like, I got some Harley Denim Black mixed up in single stage so if I get a rock chip, the satin/black combo should hide a lot of it

I was kinda making that a ‘tongue in cheek’ comment…but all things considered, I’m stoked that you’re seriously close to paint. Really want to see the hood painted.

In the fiberglass underground fuel tank business we have been bonding steel to fiberglass since the 70’s

A very good profile on steel is best, 36 or 45 grit for heavy iron, 60 maybe for steel that can heat and warp.

The first layer on the steel should be thin and ideally with a VE (vinyl ester) resin as it has a higher CTE and heat and cool. Cycles makes it less likely to debond. Then apply polyester or vinyl ester glass over that. All glass work should be done with as high a glass losing as can be done, like 35-45% glass.

I fiberglassed a good bubble from K Bar S (so you know it has been awhile) to my hood 20 years ago, I used Ve resin and screwed to down when wet every 2.5”. I then removed the screws and put a thin skim coat of 1 ply of 1.5 oz mat over that. It’s still there today.

Me too, we did a paint spray out today to get the denim finish. A little more blocking in the morning and then we'll shoot sealer in the afternoon. This is the finish I'm looking to mimic

Didn't quite get it painted, but at least it's in primer :)

The vent isn't seated yet, once I push down it's hard to unlock all of the push lock pins. I just set it on there for the photo
