For the cost and effort to source some used EB axles, just upgrade to the Yukon shafts and a new 760X u-joint and forget about it for a (long) while.

Complete Off Road was running a special on them a few weeks back, not sure if they still are or not, but his prices are pretty damn attractive.

Since its the driverside (sorty) you can get one out of any F150, F250 or fullsize Bronco truck in the junk yard cheap. It will need to be cut 1/2" off the end of the splines where it goes into the carrier. Don't worry about the cut, it still has full engagement on the carrier.
I use a cut off wheel. The stub shaft (outer) is the same length. I have neen running F250 D44 shafts for years in my 68 D44 using the 760's on 38's and seems to hold up, now I break hubs! On the full size shafts, the passengerside (long shaft) has to be cut down 6" and resplined in a machine shop.

1/2" May be a bit more than necessary. I can stuff a full size short side axle in mine without any cutting and when we ordered both a BB and an EB short side axle at the same time they even sent us exactly the same axles. My suggestion is to try it first, then cut it if necessary.

right side axles from Chevys work too. Mid 70's with the 44. If you still have drums you can take the brakes off the Chevy as well and start your disk brake conversion.

Note that the full size trucks run the larger U-joint (which is a good thing)
