When ever I park mine for an extended period of time and I won't be near it, I pull the ignition coil wire and take it with me. They'll have to bring a tow truck if they want it

I have them in mine as well unfortunately, if the thief has an Iphone it will pop up that an airtag is following him. Recently apple released a change that will allow who ever is being tracked to locate the tag through the find your phone app. I guess they have had issues with people using to stalk other people.

Well crap. so much for that idea. I guess I will use it to find my keys. That is if I can get it out of where I put it.

I wonder if the app will allow the person to disable the tag.

Airtags are designed to be found, not for covert tracking, so they will beep when separated from their owner for a certain amount of time. I have heard it is from 8 hours to 3 days. That’s probably so you can find them even without an iPhone, but it does make them easier for a thief to detect. Then he finds it and sticks it on a random car at the Walmart.

ngsd, mine are all smarttag plus. Like you, I have an android. I have them in several different vehicles (see previous post). I really like them. To my knowledge, your android app is the only thing that can track them. They don't beep unless you purposely activate it in your app. If you hide it effectively there should be little chance that the thief could find it. The accuracy is good enough to locate your vehicle to within 50 feet but not accurate enough to tell you that the smartag is in your glovebox, if that makes any sense.

Great technology, just need to figure out how to address issue of the tag giving the thief a heads up that an Air Tag is following him.

On my list for my resto is a push button start from Digital Dawg and one of the options is a 4g-GPS tracker. Has starter lockout as an option with it as well.

Not cheap, but worth it, imo.

Consider Optimus Trackers https://optimustracker.com/ I am not affiliated with them, but I do use several of their OBD port trackers. That wouldn't work on a Bronco, but they have a hardwired tracker that is a 2 wire install and has a back up battery so it doesn't draw on your car battery unless the vehicle is in motion. You pay $12/month for the service and you can bring it up on your PC or Apple or Android ( you can see your whole "fleet") on their proprietary app so it's not easy to find like and airtag. They transmit on 4G cellular and update 30 secs. https://optimustracker.com/products...64434&pr_ref_pid=6626973646930&pr_seq=uniform

There are other brands/companies, but beware because a lot are junk. I am sure there are some other good ones as well, but I have had good luck with Optimus so far.

Maybe I'm being naive but if I was a car thief driving a stolen vehicle and my Iphone was telling me that an Airtag was following me, I believe the best thing would be to pull over and ditch the car. Especially if you did a really good job of hiding the device.

How to deal with unwanted AirTags

There are way to many ways to prevent an AirTag from tracking so I wouldn’t put much trust in them. I put a high end alarm and tracking system in my Bronco

I put an AirTag on my wife’s keys for her and it took a few days before an alert came along. Better than nothing.

You are probably right, but thieves aren't always very bright. Take for instance a local got his car jacked and then later found it, they also found somebody had used their hand free and left it play list on the car. Cops tracked down the owner of the phone and caught the thief! I
