I know
that mine cost around 4000 new, now it's more than doubled by the BOOK value!! you can't say that about any thing being made today out of Detroit!!
Just a warning. If I win the lottery they will be very high demand because I will buy every Bronco I can find for sale and put them in my fully equiped Bronco garage that will be bigger than any Building owned by Chevy. Then I might produce my own Bronco? Now i'm dreaming/ someone slap me!

I not only get verbal inquires, phone calls and notes. But recieved this email 07/24/02:

Wow, that's a real compliment and thanks.

But I love my Bronco and could not part with it. I have recently added a complete MSD system. I went with the Pro Billet small diameter distributer, 6-A box, Ford Racing plug wires to Split Fire plugs and it runs like a rocket. At the same time I upgraded to Rancho shocks and it drives like a dream after rebuilding the front end. I also replaced the master cylender, power brake booster, front pads and rear shoes recently so it stops on a dime. I have also added KC 160 watt off road lights and 55watt fog lights and the list goes on and on.

So, I think you can see why I do not want to sell it. But I may be able to help you find anonther one you could do the same too. I saw two in the Arkansas Weekly dated 07/24/02 that may have some promise and I think that weekly may be available in your area. They are project buys that will probibly go pretty cheep.

I live in Batesville and if you would like to see mine or go wheeling someday, just get back with me.

And again, thanks for the compliment.

----- Original Message -----
From: van simpson
To: astark@ipa.net
Sent: Wednesday, July 24, 2002 8:15 PM
Subject: bronco

Hi. I'm Philip Simpson and I'm interested in buying your bronco. Would you email me and tell me if your interested in selling and what town you live in. I live in Searcy AR. thanks

Broncos are just way cooler than Jeeps and Blazers. Plus Jeeps and Blazers ride like dogshit. With the short wheel base and leaf springs in the front (front shackle for the Jeep), these two cannot match the coil-sprung comfort of an EB! Plus Broncos are stronger than both, and have better turning radii and better power to weight ratio (better than most imports for that fact). I don't see Hollywood embracing the Jeep, it's always the EB in music videos and movies. So think about that. An nothing can spin donuts like an EB with a high-revving 302!

Hey everyone - thanks for responding! I really learned a lot from your posts.

This one leaves me in a quandry though.
Only a couple of short narrow rigs will handle serious abuse. Bronco and ??? Hummer ?:?

But Broncos take some TLC. If your interested in lower maintenance and lightweight wheelin, get a cheep. Of coarse we would all like to see you in a EB, and are here to help you get there!!

Good luck!!
Well, I am interested in lower maintenance and lightweight wheelin. But wah - I don't want a cheep! I am in love with the EB. They are the absolute most beautiful vehicle ever made (with the 67-69 Camaro up there too). What if I just get lucky and get a really good one? haha. Why would someone sell a really good one?

I like the point about making an investment - I've thought a lot about that too. Making car payments on a new car is a little frustrating - seems like it's value goes down about 25% a year. By the time I finish paying for it it will only be worth a fraction of what I paid. And an EB, it will go up in value if I keep it long enough and take care of it. Yeah, I'm sure my skeptical partner will go for that. ;) She can't complain - she's a golf addict $$$! :p

As far as reliability, again, IMO if you have a realtively stock rig, it is very reliable. Mine is a 74 Ranger much like the one you are looking at. I've had it for 12 years, it's my daily driver, and it's only not started for me twice. Once with a dead battery and once with a dead ignition box. Now I carry jumper cables and a spare box ($17).

The electronic duraspark ignition is great for reliability over the points ignition, but less forgiving when it fails. It came stock on 75 and up Broncos, but is an easy cheap (<100) upgrade.

I'm so glad this thread is here. I was just looking at this ad:
http://autotrader.com/findacar/vdetail.jtmpl?car_id=101015340

nooo! tell me nooo!

please keep convincing me not to get a jeep! another reason is that a newer car will cost more to insure.

but this is why i keep wandering over and looking at jeeps:
1. cheaper and more readily available
2. i'm not going to be a "hardcore offroad chick"
3. can get a newer car so it will be more reliable, cleaner, more comfortable (?)
4. my partner (we are married so it's weird calling her that because it sounds so clinical and serious - i'm much more comfortable saying "girlfriend" but hey, i'm wearing a ring and i ain't callin her my "wife") thinks jeeps are HOT. but she won't get one because they are "impractical". mainly because she is a golfer and is worried about someone seeing and stealing her clubs (as well she should be).

please, keep firing away! it gets late and the logic sets in and overrules the feeling of EB love.. throw some positive EB logic at me! haha.

going to bed..........

thought i'd through some nice ones your way.

http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/0/6/31522206.htm
http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/5/6/30342456.htm
http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/3/4/31112534.htm
http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/7/0/30984870.htm
http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/7/2/31111172.htm
http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/1/2/31522212.htm
http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/7/0/30739870.htm

some of these are pretty spendy but some are very resonable plus they are all in your back yard. You can always offer them less. Most bronco people are broke comes with ownership, showem cash and there likely to take less then they want.

g-girl pssst g-girl wake up, you're having a bad dream!!! You were dreaming for a minute that you wanted a heap!! Snap out of it.

You need to re-read this thread. Built heaps are cool, probably more readily avail, but as you have said, are seen everywhere. I thought you wanted a unique rig ?:?

You need to take a few deep breaths and remember some people looked for a year before they found their EB. This happens because there isn't an EB on every corner. I know that 5K is burnin a hole in your pocket, but take the time get what you want. If you get an EB w/top your partners clubs would be secure.

My point in the post on the lower maint., and lightweight wheelin is this: heaps just aren't as tough as EBs. Frame isn't as tough and the components aren't as tough unless modified. Maintenance may be lower because the heap will be newer and more likely closer to factory original.

But does that mean an EB will have higher maintenance? Not necessarily. It depends on the previous owner and how well they modified the rig. If they did a good job, your maint. will be the same as a heap. In another thread I warned on one EB where corners might have been cut. Be carefull in these situations, because when corners are cut, maintenance goes up - even with heaps.

I hope that helps.
Well first off, I'm a chevy guy. I know you all guys are going to hate me now. But that's what I've been raised around. Blazers and small block 350s. Well anywho, everyone as already said everything you need to know, I just wanted to add DON'T BUY A JEEP!!! Jeeps are like mustangs...a dime a dozen. They are everywhere. And not to mention their owners think that their *stuff* doesn't stink. You don't want to be part of that group. I would buy an EB. The following seems to be a better group of people around the broncs. EBs were defently better trails rigs from the factory than the jeeps. And remember, it's not a Jeep thing and Yes you will understand better than a Jeep owner when you own an EB.

Wow - thanks you guys - those were the exact 3 posts I needed to read! Yes, this is about getting what I really want and like - something that will make me love it no matter what (I don't think a heep could do that).

And I really do appreciate this community - you all are super helpful. I've learned a lot in a short time.

Now, on to the EBs!

Well, I want an automatic. That rules out a lot of them. And I don't think I need a 351 - a 302 is fine.

This one sounded perfect for me but it sold before I could look at it:
http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/7/0/30739870.htm

This one sound really nice but is too expensive (not sure I could talk them down enough from $13k!)
http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/5/6/30342456.htm
maybe i'll call and see if it's still available - couldn't hurt to look...

this one looks nice but is a 4 speed and looks like a frikkin hearse!
http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/3/4/31112534.htm

this one sounds nice too:
http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/1/2/31522212.htm
i think i'll call them.

thanks guys! keep your ear out for me! :)

my latest revised criteria just FYI:
either 73-77 or a really good conversion job on:
PS, PB, Automatic
mechanically solid - either a new, low miles, or rebuilt 302 engine
interior in good shape
no or little surface rust
good seals and electric wiper motor (it rains here ya know)
either cheap enough to buy a paint job, or a nice red, green or blue (doesn't have to be new)
no major body damage

fact....the greasergrrrl isnt gonna hardcore, gonna street run, wants 4 wheel drive for nasty weather, needs to tool up for a bronco (face it their 25-30 yr old rigs) needs dependable transportation. swooning for a bronco caus their cool (dont blame her) In my eyes Broncos are big toys that sometimes need a 2nd vehicle to have to depend on. big gass guzzlers. It took me years to find one, not that many around new york. There was a kid here (Cody) lived in new york looking for one in the worst way (had the cash) could'nt find one worth spending the money on. And he did it right by paying mechanics to evaluate several rigs. I think he finally gave up. G-Grrl go buy a 91 or newer cherokee and slap some big meats on it.Their cheep. new fords suck, wranglers are cool but not practical. Big blazers (the ones the top comes off) are cool, verry cool. Biggest convertable your gonna find! ;D I say this 'caus she not gonna wheel it! so whats the point? Slap big tires on anything and its cool. why beat your head against a rock? Unless you want a toy and are willing to a) cash up for a real nice rig or b) willing to work on a fixer upper till your blue or old look elsewhere. I got lucky, real lucky and got a nice one but I got the time/tools/garage/other trucks to run to work on it. If you dont your asking for headache.

Heres an i candy one just to look at and watch a little clip. This one is very nice i've seen it in person and talked to the owner. a little out of your price range but its just for motivation.

http://www.broncousa.com/add_11011.htm

ps he's already come down 13000 he wanted 35000 for it last year a bit steep but it is an awesome bronco when you see it in person.

ah, now this is just the kind of debate i want to see!

and know that i'm not arguing with any of you because i think you are wrong, i just like to have all positions fully articulated so i can learn from them.

ok, i just looked at some more jeeps on autotrader and the cherokee is too damn big (and not very cool at all IMHO). and the wrangler is too damn small. one thing i like about the bronco is that it seems like the right size for what i want to do.

i know i'm not going to go off road, but really that might just make the bronco less likely to need work. and this is not going to be a daily driver - i already have one. so gas guzzling, though not exactly appealing, is somewhat ok (a fact of life). i hope to not break down on the side of the highway, but being able to work on it is a goal of mine.

i guess teh bottom line is that this 2nd rig is going to be to make me happy, but i just don't want to be unrealistic (look for something that doesn't exist). i have seen one or two that have looked great to me but they are snatched up quickly.

also, i've only been looking for less than 2 weeks - i'm certainly no expert :p

Its all good......I got 2 jeeps (yj's) s-10 blazer, bronco ll (i know), had 78 big blazer, 67wagoneer and a couple other 4x4's. To me their all good. I won't cave in to brand loyality, I think thats just stupid.(ford's better than chevy....chevy better than ford....who gives a big fat rats a.s.s.?) Its all in what you want. Many of the guys here are hardcore with purpose built rigs made for running trails, peroid. In that case Bronco is the only way to go. Stout, simple, strong. If your willing to seek out your piece of art in a bronco gather up your soda cans and study the ads everyday, somewhere, sometime that rig will be waiting for you and a hundred other guys so you got to be quick and know what your looking at. so study up now and learn all you can so you'll get the best bargain at a price that you'll feel good about. Im not saying itll be cheep, just that you'll know you got what you paid for.

I couldn't have said this as well - even with more or less words!! Jeepster has two excellent points:
Many of the guys here are hardcore with purpose built rigs made for running trails, peroid.
Broncos are hardcore - so people spend a lot of time (and money) making them meet their needs. But it is a classic vehicle in it's own way. You got to love what they are, and if you're not trickin it out for the trail, then you're putting your artistic touch on a piece of art. So, if it's a statement you want, keep your eyes open and know what your buyin - I know, jeepster's already said this... If not, grab a cj and get on the road, summer's runnin out!!
