Build Thread 1968 (Update 04/06/10)Exhaust On.

Alright, I am finally going to try to consolidate my build pictures etc of the 68 Bronco I am working on. I started with this, as you see it looks pretty good. However the paint isnt really that good but will remain for now.
The old tired out 6 cylinder is near deaths door. The suspension is way old and spongy. The body had its floor pans replaced and rockers at one time. The rear quarters look replaced too. The Hard top I removed and used on my 66. This 68 has the divider in it for a halfcab top (it is not an original halfcab however) It also came with a bench seat. The Tires and brakes are beat also. I picked this up in June 08.

I took the top off and fitted a fiberglass halfcab top from Kentrol on it, nice top. I then bedlined the rear bed area with Durabak bedliner. I also installed a new rear window on the half cab top. The top again came off. I also fixed the tailgate (welded etc)

I had picked up this seperate frame with a 302 engine and NP435/ NP205. Someone had tried to make a 4 link suspension out of it but gave up. I took the frame back apart and the engine out to refreshen it. The frame I rebuilt with 2 1/2 inch suspension lift and extended radius arms. I also put an inner rear shock bar on it and again re mounted the drive train. I also put front shock hoops on it.
I sandblasted some old stock rims, painted them and found a nice set of 31" tires off of Craigs list.

Some more pictures of the shock bar, damage to the rear tailgate, engine, Tires, etc. Also of my new 23 gallon BC Broncos fuel tank mounted on the frame. The frame was painted with POR 15 gray. Also a pic of the radius arms.

More pics.
The Body lifted off of the frame. Doors, Hood, tailgate off, interior out, dash and wiring out, heater box removed etc.
I patched some of the rust on the cowl. I also cut out an acess panel to the transmission. I plan to make a panel from steel diamond plate. I have also beefed up the perimiter of the cutout with thin steel welded from underneath. holes have been drilled with nuts welded underneath so that the acess panel can be quickly unbolted or bolted.

I also have painted the bottom of the body and engine compartment with POR 15 black.

No picutres yet, but i bedlined the inner portions of the wheel wells and the floor boards of the truck. I am still trying to locate an exhaust that will work with my stock manifolds. My tranny mount is alot lower than a stock mount because of the NP435.

Now I am waiting for some exhaust parts and some goodies from Toms Bronco Parts. A flaming river tilt steering column with lower shaft and steering wheel, New GM power steering pump, braket, hoses, and a set of lift off door hinges. I should be ready to put the tub back onto the frame (wild horses 1" body lift) soon. All the tiny small stuff doesnt provide for interesting pictures (especially with my crappy camera) so Pictures will be comming when the body is moved.

More Progress...
Ok, My digital Camera is still sucking so these are the best of MANY pictures. I plan to get a new Digital this month.
I finally was able to lift the Body onto the frame (using the engine Hoist). I installed a 1 inch Body lift, I still have yet to get shocks. You can see its ride height now, I like it very much. I have also finished painting the interior floor with Black Bedliner and POR15 Black on the bulkhead wall.

I believe I got my camera working a little better. Some more pictures.
Presently I am trying to rework the old wiring for this thing, Would love a new harness but I have exceeded my budget.

Here goes some more.
I cut out and welded the trany cover for the NP435. It is made od diamond plate (steel) and bolts down to the hump. I still have to paint it.
I also installed some lift off hinges and the passenger door and the passenger fender. Along with that I put in the dash and began working on its wiring, I have to mate the old wiring to the new column wiring.
Lots of small stuff but still some big stuff to do also.
Hopefully I can stay motivated. Thanks for looking.
