My neighbor gave me a boat trailer so I decided to build it in to a small car trailer just big enough to carry a bronco.

Are you sure the single trailer axle can handle the weight of an eb. With only a single axle your going to have a lot of tongue weight....right?...or am I wrong about that?
Nice work by the way.

Trailer looks great but that only looks like a 3500# axle

Probably no more than a 3500 lb. axle, it's just not adequate. Really nice trailer, but I would sell to someone for hauling ATV's etc. With the tongue ending at first crossbar, I'm afraid it will fold on you at that point with any stress.

nice looking trailer, my concerns are the same as every one else. It can be done but a 5200# axle is minimum.

Here's a few pics of one we built at first just for trips to the carwash local events, ect. We've pulled this cross country several times. We discovered that 16mpg towing was really nice for events we don't need the suport of the race trailer.

And no the FJ isn't over loaded, maxed out but not over.........

Yeah, I agree nice work but definitely not gonna hold up. Sell it as utility trailer or for lawn service trailer, apply a little extra get a decent tandem axle car trailer. It will be the thrill of your life when that breaks going down the road. Not worth the risk.

Nice job on the conversion from boat to flat bed. Even if that axle is a 3500# axle, your bronco is 4200+ then add the weight of the trailer say 800# and your over by 1500# I would think twice about putting your bronco on that for any distance. If you were starting a lawn mowing business I would say good score. Not knocking your work. It looks good.

I agree with Bax and the others on weight issues. If you want to use that trailer I would look at getting a heavier axle and springs, your best bet would be to look at a torsion axle, weld a spacer to set the correct ride height you are after (lower is better) and add strength for the mounting point. I did not see anything in the base design that wouldn't work other than the light duty axle. For piece of mind I would also add brakes. Not knowing what your tow rig is, you also have to consider that towing a heavy load on a single axle could give you a teeter effect going down the road. You will have to address tongue weight but you will want that axle back as far as you can get it to make it ride/tow better. A single axle will give you better economy in towing but it has its trade offs.

You can probably get another 3500lb axle for cheap used on craigslist. Also I got a brand new one off ebay from a dude named trailerpartsking on ebay a year or two ago, built to my specs and delivered pretty quick for a good price. Of course it was only shipped across GA probably would be expensive to ship if you are far away. Its a nice trailer I'd add an axle and not get rid of it. And yeah you should try to get one with brakes if possible, I've never hooked up brakes on one but would like to add an axle w/ brakes to my trailer at some point

That trailer is awesome. How do you load it, do you take the wheels off or something? Or maybe I'm not looking at it right

We drive over the tires. Loads realy easy, easy even with a broke rig as long as your winch is working. It weights 800# the heaviest rig we carry with it is my Bronco at 4800, the others are 3200 and 4200. Its pretty cool you can pull it through drive threws and is low enough to watch traffic through the review mirror through the windshield of the bronco.

sweet! my buddy an I were looking at it here in the office and arguing about if the tires were far enough out that you could drive on there without going over the tires, glad I was right

No pics, but Gordon Bailie built a really nice and stout single axle trailer specific to his trail rig - no deck , just saddles for each wheel placed for his exact wheel base.

Yeller, nice trailer.

You're asking for a driving disaster that will result in serious damage/injuries + your drawers and the seat cover being sucked up your bodily rear end if you use a single axle trailer.

with improper engineering, overloading or poor weight distribution yes, with all three in check, good to go.

My trailer for instance, tires are rated for 3295# each = 6590. axles rated for 7,000 coupler rated for 12,000 tonge has more sectoin modulas (engineer geek for strength) than the frame on your bronco, trailer frame is a truss with double the modulas of the tongue. Trailer capacity on axle 6590 tongue wieght 439 total 7029#. Bronco = 4800 trailer 810 (and all weighed on race car scales) total weight = 5610 20.2% safety margin.
