C-4 Transmission Pan

Hey all,

I'm sure this has come up before, but what are everyone's thoughts on a deep finned pan for a C-4 that is hooked up to a mildly built 302? The Bronco will have 235/75R15's and will primarily be on the road with some occasional wheeling. My concern is the heat generated during daily road driving. Any suggestions and thoughts are appreciated.

It's always a plus adding fluid capacity to an auto trans, plus the rigidity of an aluminum pan, makes them easier to seal. Now is a good time to add a trans temp gauge, put the sender in the pan.

Hi, before you order your pan see if your dipstick goes into the side of the pan (probably) or the top of the case. Any tranny cooling is a good idea. Good luck

I have been using a B&M pan since 2005, tapped with a temp sensor. I added it when building the Trans. No problems and still going strong. I have a cooler with a 7" fan that comes on at 180 I think.

Concur, I had to remove the mounting tab on the dipstick tube and modify the bends to clear my long tube headers. The B&M pan seals great, no more leaks, but I didn't install the correct o-ring for the dipstick, so it leaks there a little.

I used a Lokar dipstick with my Duff long tubes... it was tight but fit with no problems and no leaks. I have since changed to BC Shorties and definitely no problems there.

I'm running a B&M and going to be purchasing a Local flex dipstick as well.

I've got a set of long tube Thorley's, so I will have to check fitment. Again, thank you all for the help and advice.

I think the deep aluminum pans are fine if you have an extended filter in them. Using a stock Bronco filter and pickup tube in those pans is going to give you problems on steep climbs.

If you want a C4 Lokar pan fill dipstick let me know. I am getting rid of mine.

It fit well with long tube headers but it was hard to reach and you have to carry around a funnel adapter and a funnel to add fluid. I am going back to a stock like tube with locking dipstick.
I can pour tans fluid directly in the stick tube on the trail if I need to.

I have another bronco with long tube headers and I was able to cut 1/2" off the flair end and re-flair it to clear the headers.

For a finned pan check out http://www.bteracing.com/products/BTE428000
It's hard to beat a nice $111 pan.

All of this is great! It is leading me to ask a follow up question though...if I get a sensor mounted, what kind of gauge should I get? Also, does anyone know of a thread that would cover that?

Look at Auto meter gauges and buy once. I went through 2 cheep ones before buying an Auto Meter.
Another bad part to the Lokar is that tge plastic dipstick is very hard to read.

Just installed my B&M pan. I left the stock bronco filter on (with long pickup tube). The stock filter pickup tube has the same depth as the B&M filter. That was my thinking, I hope I am correct on this!

These are pretty reasonably priced if you want to prevent oil starvation.

Hey viper. yea I probably will move to this filter and assembly on my next transmission flush.

As for starvation, you think the stock bronco filter with long pickup tube would cause this?

The deep flat, square pan doesn't really have much to keep the fluid around the pickup tube when you introduce angles. This filter will work better because it's large enough to always be in the fluid no matter what the angle. It's an actual filter too not just a screen.
