i bought a EB that has not been driven since 95. well i got it running and now i am on to the next issue.

the PO said the tranny worked fine until he changed the fluid. well i dropped the pan and it all looked fine. i pulled the filter and the poppet / spring were in place.

when you start out you can put it into reverse and it works fine. back out of the shop and put it into drive. when it shifts from 1 to 2 the tranny stops pulling. it never shifts. at this point reverse does not work either. if you cut the engine off and wait a few minutes then you can do it all over again.

so in short. reverse and 1st will work until it goes to 2nd and looses everything. let it set a few minutes (engine off) and it will work again.

any ideas?

intermediate band adjustment? you need an inch/pound torque wench to set it. maybe someone here or the 'net can give you the procedure and specs.

otherwise it may be some crud in the 2nd gear valve circuity.

If you decide it's something you don't want to tackle yourself I would recommend Mike McAlpin who owns Mike's Automatic Transmissions located on I-55 South at Savannah St. He came highly recommended to me from the drag race crowd. He rebuilt my C4 in 2005, other than some leaks that I created myself after the fact I haven't had any problems.

Intermediate band adjustment:
1. Loosen locknut.
2. Tighten adjusting screw to 10 ft. lbs.
3. Backoff screw exactly 1 and 3/4 turns.
4. Tighten locknut to 30 ft. lbs. without turning the screw.

The adjustment is at the front driver's side of the tranny. Might want to use some silicone on the back of the locknut before you tighten it down.

Well Im stumped. I have never heard or seen that problem before. The closest similarity would indicate a pump problem or torque converter providing the screen or cooler isnt plugged and you are sure its full of fluid. Did you try overfilling it? Could even be a crack in the case. I need more info. about the symptoms.

i gave up and pulled it. i will have it rebuilt.

once you killed the engine you could hear the pressure relieve in the tranny and then you could start it up and go again.
