Getting ready to put my C4 back together, and when I tore it down, this spring was missing.

I've read some on the internet that it isn't needed?

Can anyone verify this?

It looks like some models of C4's don't have a spring. Here's someone elses pic, but it's the cutback valve..

Yep it's an optional spring. The transgo shift kit doc's call it out as optional as well.

Well that's partly what confused me. Shift kit isn't saying optional. I'll leave it out though. Looks like it'll be ok.

A stock valve body doesn't use a spring there. The spring is used to decrease the normal cutback (cutback is a decrease in line pressure during light throttle cruise). Shift kits often include a spring to lessen the cutback.
