When I pulled my transmission pan (deep one with the "hump") I noticed that the filter I bought was not quite right. It was the right filter but wasn't "deep" like the one currently on the tranny. It was flat, with a circular hole in it. So I did some research, and this is probably something everyone else already knows.

Some of the C4 broncos came with a flat filter and a pickup tube for the deeper pan. You can get the tube at Tom's.

But some, like mine, came with a filter that was shaped differently, one that by itself would go down into the deeper pan. However, I couldn't find this particular filter listed anywhere for a Bronco.

It turns out, they ALSO used this type of transmission filter on a 1976 302 equipped Mustang II.

So, if you are looking to replace this type of filter, Napa has it and it is P/N ATP 14946

Who knew?

Really? A Mustang II???

>>> think pinto's & vehicles with the C5 trans. used that filter also .... if the trans. pan was never off before you will find a little plastic thingy at the bottom of the pan.... it was in the filler hole during assembly process the knocked into the pan later.... see below VV

Thats the filter used in the Bronco II with the rectangular slot in it. The standard Bronco c4 used the humped pan and flat filter with 1"gromet and seperate extension tube.

The filters will interchange but all Bronco C4s had the pickup tube. The mustang II filter will work better than a standard C4 filter but not as well as the Bronco filter and tube when using the stock pan.
