C4 Transmission to T-Case Adaptor Seal

Ok...at the risk of getting flamed...

My '75 lost what looks like all its transmission fluid yesterday.
It started loosing fluid when I was almost home. When I got her backed into the garage tranny fluid was everywhere. The whole underside of my truck was covered and fluid was dripping off the entire underside. It was such a mess I could not even begin to find the source. Today when I took a look it appears that the Transmission to front of Transfer case is the culprit. Can that adaptor seal cause me to loose so much fluid that it did not even show on the dipstick this morning? The tranny was (yesterday) still working in all forward and reverse gears. Anyone have advice on tackling this job?

The seal prevents trans fluid from getting into the tcase and gear oil from getting into the trans. Pull the tcase fill plug and see if there's trans fluid in it. There is a gasket between the adapter and tcase that could be leaking trans fluid to the outside. The trans vent is at the top front of the adapter and it will pour fluid out if the trans is too full or too hot.

Make sure the bolts that connect the adapter the tranny are snug. I've found those, mysteriously loose, after a local tranny shop worked on mine once. It caused a pretty bad leak. Since the gasket was still in there, all I did was tighten it up and the leak was completely gone.

Follow up to Transmission issue (Viperwolf1)

First of all, I appreciate the responses to my previous post.

I finally got a change to investigate what happened with my c4 last week. It seems that the transmission just got too hot and vented tranny fluid out the top of my c4. It was a high 90's day with heat index of 110 degrees.

I bought the truck as a "project" last year. It appears the PO bypassed the cooling lines up to the radiator. I assume he was planning to add an aftermarket transmission cooler, but never got around to it. The current radiator appears to be for a manual Transmission? No place for lines? I topped off the fluid and it is running great.

What is a good aftermarket transmission cooler solution? Any suggestions?? This truck is only driven on pavement and secondary roads. No aggressive 4 wheel action. Not a climber.

Thanks!

You're pretty lucky not to have cooked it without a cooler. This one works well. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/bmm-70268 Make some brackets to mount it about 1" in front of the radiator.
